Am I the cheapest component person on the File?
Here's my deal. I don't make a lot of money. I live in freakin West Virginia for Christ sake and there really aren't a lot of jobs in this area. I mean, I do OK for the area, just not great.
Here's my gear: 20" RCA Tru-Flat flatscreen with Surround. Cost about $130 (mom's gift to me for my birthday a couple of years ago) CyberHome DVD recorder (which I love and get LOTS of use out of) that I got on eBay for about $80. I even use it to transfer my mom's home movies to DVD. Durabrand DVD player that I got at (well it's exclusive to) Wal-Mart about a month ago for about $30. Works fine though the remote sucks. It's even progressive scan. I've got a 2.1 Surround Sound Philips/Magnavox 3 CD shelf stereo that I pipe all my cable and DVD's through. Mom got that for me for my birthday a few years ago too, about $120. I've also got a 2.1 wireless headphone set I got at Radio Shack. It works marginally well, tends to pick up radio stations if I don't tune it just right. Cost about $30. And on the way I have those CyberHome 5.1 Surround Sound headphones. About $30 with shipping. Which my mom is also getting me for my upcoming birthday. So.......am I the cheapest Filer or what? Here's a pic (crappy as it is) of my setup. I have a small apartment, so even if my budget weren't a problem, my actually living space is. Oh, and you can't see my speakers. They are actually hanging from the ceiling spaced out for good sound on my current 2.1. Last edited by Empire : 03-29-2007 at 09:03 PM. |

You work with what you've got until you can get more...and dont worry, you are always trying to get more. Capitalism at its best. I would start following Craigslist. Who knows, maybe you will get lucky and find someone selling a used HTIB for a good price. That might be worth the upgrade. Oh, and stop worrying about the noise. I would tell your neighbors to go fork themselves ![]()

Why are you concerned with being 'cheap'? If you like and enjoy what you have...then enjoy.
It's not like you are preaching the benifits of hanging multiple speakers in every configuration thinkable and...never mind. Enjoy it, upgrade when you can and enjoy it more. ![]() |

Hey sometimes cheap price doesnt mean cheap quality
I liek my electronics simple and compact. When you are in teh military ... something light, easy to setup and durable is what you need......as well as something affordable on a budget. Recently I lucked out. I dedicated a portion of my tax return to getting a decent TV and home theatre system for me and the boys since my husband left us kid's DVDs with no DVD player for them to play it on. A friend gave me his older system to help us out but due to its age and repeated use i think we did it in. (and yes i kept cleaning the DVD player and making sure it was good) I went to look at a LCD TV since my living room for this setup is pretty bright during teh day and it will be a system that has to last many many hours of cartoons and other kids programs but be great to have people over for movie nights. I found a really great deal on a Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV for only $770 and then a week later I found a great RCA 5 DVD changer/ surround sound system for only $120. I am a single mom who can build computers but knew little on setting up Home theatre equipment.... I was able to carry it all in by myself and set up was easy!! I even did my own extended wiring for optimum positioning!! I dont have the most state of the art system either hun... but i am quite happy with the setup i have and my kids definetly are too :')

To Dogg and Sub:
well waaaa to both of yas! I find gaming and even helping develop in the gaming industry fun, enjoyable and I love a man that can keep up with me. At least in MMORPGs I am the healer type and i leave it up to the men (or women) to charge in battle for me **evil grin**
