DLP dimming?

I have a 2004 Samsung HL-P5085W and over the past few weeks I'm really beginning to notice very blatant banding of shadows and "shallow" shadows just don't look right on a lot of material over all connections.

I've haven't replaced the bulb yet, so I'm wondering if it's about time I should?

I certainly hope it's not the actual display and me never noticing until now, because it's very annoying.

Otherwise everything else I'm content with.

I went into the service menu and adjusted the Lamp Boost from 20 (default) to 10, the picture was terrible, I cranked it up to 60 and it's a noticeable improvement.

Temporary fix I know, but at least now I know it's the bulb dimming and not my set looking like shit to begin with and me never noticing.

You may want to verify whether this bulb will work for your tv. If I read the page correctly, I get the impression that bulb is compatible with your set, but I would call the 800# to be sure.

Your TV should have a lamp timer. If it is getting up around 2K hours, it could be time to replace it...

Thanks!

Though it seems Samsungparts.com has the bulb and assembly for $150.
