With the demise of M&K...

I am now looking for replacement speakers. I was going to use the System 750THX Select speakers, and even thought of piecing together a THX Ultra set for when I get my theater room built.

I am looking at Atlant Technologies now, and have found one dealer here in the Puget Sound area. This is just for movie/HT and Music is not realy a concern.

Some speakers I am concidering...

B&W 700 Series
Paradigm Studio Series(Link inside)
Atlantic Technologies System 4200e

I am partial to B&W so I would say you go that route.

How about giving Paradigm a listen? They're pretty aggressively priced and have a pretty deep product line.

Which of the B&W 700 series speakers are you considering?

Iggy and Sub780lime,

B&W 705 left and right, HTM7 center, and DS7 Surrounds.

Mr. Furious,

I am looking at the Paradigm Studio Reference 20 L&R, Studio CC 590 center, and Studio ADP 590 surrounds.

Subs will eventualy be replaced with SVS...

I've got B&W 600 series and think they are great.

I wanted for the longest time, the 602 series for my theater. Fronts and surrounds...the matching center of course. Then one of the sales people at Definitive Audio in Bellevue had me listen to the Paradigm Reference Studio 20s...

WOW

So now, the 600 series just doesn't cut it any more

Don't get me wrong...the B&W 600 series are fantastic speakers. I am willing to bet if I had heard the 800 series, I would have gone that way. I want to compare the 700 series I linked above to the Paradigm. Another thing I would like to do is compair...say...the High end B&W 600 ( 604? ) to the Paradigm Studio 20 ( $900 ) a pair for the Paradigm...I think the 604s are $1200 a pair...

The 705s are I think about the same price range as the Paradigm...

Paradigm (IMHO) is one the most value priced speakers on the market. The quality of audio that comes from them really seem to best a lot of their competitors at that price level. I think once you get them in your home, you'll be very pleased with your choice.

Paradigm sound BIG and push a lot of bass, they even do that pretty well, but I don't think they reproduce music well at all. For a home theater where that sort of thing is the priority they probably ARE a better choice than B&W, especially in the 600 series range.

I'm a big fan of B&W, but they are comparably expensive.

I agree with Sea' on the B&W's if movie playback only is your goal. I was almost afraid to admit that since I tried for soooo long to get speakers that did both: Movies & Music.

I'll admit it...music has the edge with my B&W's...by FAR.

Unless you get into a B&W floorstanders the 'gap' between kick ass movie viewing and music is going to be a bit of a problem IMO.

My DM 604S2's do a good to great job with both, but with bookshelf speakers, yep...the Para's are probably a better choice for the Ooomph of movies.

When I listened to the studio 20s over the 602S3s, I was floored at how much better they sounded..for a 50% premium tho over the B&Ws. That is the problem with listening to something that I believe is better than I can afford

Curve Ball...

Axiom speakers...Those that own Axiom...have you compaired how the Axioms sound to the B&W, or Paradigm? I was looking at the M50V2 at $702 shipped for the pair in their Factory Outlet. If I do matching Center and a pair of surrounds( or all 4 ) I still get the 5% system discount on top of the ourlet pricing. Total of 1800ish...Very tempting

So is it safe to say you are NOT considering 'floorstanders' ? You mentioned the higher end 604's (floorstanders) and wanting to compare them to the Para 20's and if I'm reading all this correctly, I gotta believe the extra drivers alone in the 604's are going to best the para 20's.

Regardless of what I think, I would like to know if you are only considering bookshelf and/or floorstanding speakers.

If I can find a floor standing speaker that I can afford and sounds as good, I have no problem with them. It just seems that all the speakers I can afford ( pushing a bit ) are Book Shelf speakers. 604s are 1200 a pair, and the Axioms are floorstanding as well at 702 for the pair of "factory Outlet" speakers, and about 1200 for the Factory Outlet M80V2s...so, I if I did go with something like the 604, I could afford the M80s...how do they compair to the 604s?

OK

So I leave work early and can't pick up the GF for about 5 hours...I headed down to Magnolia in Seattle. Not much I wanted to listen to

Definitive Audio...Paradigms sound nice...B&Ws sound nice. I guess the Signature series were out of my price range since the nice salesman didn't want to show them to me.

Back to the car, happened into Speakerlab. They are a PSB dealer, as well as a Boston Acoustics dealer. I listened to the Image T45. At $800 a pair, they ( IMHO ) sounded just as good as the Paradigms I had listened to earlier, for 2/3 the price! I had forgotten how good they sound. I think I may have found my next set of speakers
