Goin' digital...

This isn't a necissary thread, but I'm high on the idea of buying high end electronics, so I needed to share. Basically, I will be getting rid of my CRT projector, for a digital relatively soon. We're looking at moving out of state, and the thought of moving and setting up the Barco monster makes us weary. Plus it's got burn in, and several issues that have been bugging me.

So, it looks like I'll be getting the JVC RS-1, a 6k 1080p digital pj, with a 15000:1 cr. Thats 15000:1 without an iris. I was thinking about the Mitsubishi HC5000, or Panny AE1000 in the 3k price range, but I want something equal to, better than what I have. I went and saw it today, and image just blew me away. I thought mine was sharp, but this was like a big plasma screen, litterally. And there is nothing wrong with the black level, when the image went black, the screen was completly dark. Now, they had theirs set up on a greyscreen, but I've heard it doesn't really need it. In any case, I've been wanting to go to a 133in screen anyways .

With the black level problem solved, CRT has no more legs to stand on really. Digitals are sharper, nearly as good contrast anymore and are much simpler to install, not to mention no more convergence. Bulb replacements is about it, and really it likely costs the same, 3 bulb changings = about the time you want three new tubes, and one tube costs as much as a bulb. I'll miss the old girl, but her time has come I think.

No, they aren't on display anywhere. I doubt I'd be happy enough with them, coming from CRT.

You are probably right, but I gotta say I'm often taken aback when folks say CRT's are sharp. I've always thought of them as smoother or soft.

I look forward to your future pics!

Well when you haven't seen a 1080p digital, they are very sharp lol. I mean the level of detail on HD is astounding, and the 3Dness is there, I didn't think it could be much improved upon, but it can apprently.
