Finally got the resources to pull the trigger...twice!
To replace the main TV we bought the Samsung HL-T6156W from Costco (on sale w/ stand for $2000, plus tax, plus $100 shipping). It should take some time to arrive (3 weeks??). I was going to wait for the 67" to go on sale $2400 that included stand and shipping but we have a cabinet that should just barely fit the 61" set; if we took the 67" we'd have to figure out what to do with the cabinet (which looks nice next to the matching side towers). Besides, 61" should suit the room without a problem. For the bedroom we ordered the Samsung HL-S5679W from Amazon for $1379 (includes shipping and no tax). There is a built-in space for a TV in the room, where we now have a dresser and a 32" older TV on it. The distance from the headboard to the screen is 17' which left me always needing glasses to see the 32" screen. With the 56" screen we should see it much better and we don't need a stand if it too sits on the dresser. We're also getting DirecTV installed next week (the day the 56" set is scheduled to arrive), which brings a question: Right now we have Dish service (and they seemed to be very disinterested in our upgrading service to HD; $100 service call, new box, lots of new fees, etc.) and the new customer offer for DirecTV seems very good (use the offer at Costco which is better than the online offer; Costco offers a $100 gift card, $60 monthly cost for 195 channels of HD-DVR svc for a year along w/ 3 mos. of free Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax; and an extra $100 for buying an HDTV at Costco). With Dish, we have DVR service to the main set and the master bedroom. We didn't run service to the two extra rooms because they're hardly used and it would have cost us a monthly lease cost. The guy at the Costco kiosk who signed us up for DirecTV says you pay for the HD-DVR box (which still belongs to DirecTV but costs $279 less $100 promo), but any extra boxes for TV's in other rooms are free (which sounds great). Finally the question: With the DVR service we have now, we have only one box that services both TV's. You can record one show on TV1, and another on TV2 at the same time, while watching something on the DVR (we rarely watch live TV anymore just to be able to skip ads). Does the DirecTV DVR system work the same way? If so, would we need another box for the bedroom TV? The kiosk guy wasn't sure if you could record two shows at once while watching either a recorder program, a DVD, etc. I do like the system we have now so I'd be disappointed to not have the same flexibility. Thanks for the help....

Thanks!
My sister is now going to be the proud owner of a slightly used 50" Mitsubishi TV that has served us well for a number of years.
