Cheaking speaker polarity

Anyone around here familiar with a method involving a 9 volt battery?

I "think" it has something to do with hooking up the + and - of the battery to the corresponding speaker wire.

At this point I’m not sure what to expect if it’s connected correctly or otherwise.

I've heard of that before, but also heard that putting DC current across the voicecoil(s) like that is a bad idea. It *probably* wouldn't hurt anything, but there is a risk. I believe it is most risky with tweeters. The cone of the speaker will move either inward or out, depending on the polarity of the battery. I believe it should push outward, just as it would when generating a pressure wave (sound). It would be a little safer with a 1.5 volt battery (i.e. AA), but the effect would be less.
