Nervous about upgrading!
The title says it all. I plan on upgrading speakers this summer from Onkyo HTiB to some Klipsch RB61's and RS 42's and a new sub yet undetermined. The subs are down to a Velo, HSU and SVS but I am hesitant to pull the trigger. I will be able to finish it all be late August early September I hope. For some reason the thought of dropping over $1600 on speakers scares the crap out of me (yes that is a lot to me). I upgrading the tv and stand and didn't even brink an eye on it. I guess since I could see the picture it was a given but sound is subjective and I hate to make a mistake. Has anyone else felt this way? What did you do? I am looking as speakers as an investment so I am I wrong in think about this? I have listened to the Klipsch and like what I heard.
Thanks

As someone who has shelled out quite a lot for home theatre equipment, the best piece of advice I can offer you is this: always check the return policy before you buy. You really won’t know if a speaker works for you until you hear it for yourself. I got an SVS sub and it simply didn’t work for me, but, thankfully, they had a good return policy. Most speaker companies understand that certain speakers may not "perform" in certain rooms. If you have doubts or concerns, call them and ask about the possibility of a return (and restocking fees) if it happens that you're unsatisfied. Speakers are very different from TVs and furniture. There are so many variables involved and not everyone agrees on what sounds "right." For me, I like big cinema sound, so I tried to closely match that. Some prefer a more subdued and intimate sound. Decide what you want your theatre to sound like and then try to match that sound. And, as always, we’re here to help. That’s the very reason this forum exists. That is unless we’re arguing about HD formats… then you’re on your own. ![]()

Well done on choosing Klipsch speakers, there's nothing that sounds better to me. I can understand why your nervous, but speakers are a good investment. They aren't constantly being outdated every year. Just be sure they are the ones you like, and actually because they aren't constantly being upgraded, it may be a good idea to save for higher end Klipsch speakers, as they should last you a very long time.
I on the other hand am looking at getting a $5500 digital projector. That scares the crap out of me, since it's almost a garentee that there will be a better performing product out next year, and possibly for less money. Problem is, you can say that every single year, thus never ending up with a projector. Speakers are much simpler. I bought the Klipsch RF-7 based surround system(and SVS PB 2+ sub), geeze 4 years ago, and I see no reason to upgrade(I've even heard their new THX Ultra 2 system) in the forseeable future.

No problems with my Klipsch set-up. They are very well built & designed. I havn't sampled many brand names, the acoustics alone sold me on Klipsch. Everything else is icing on the cake.
![]() btw, paid double what you posted for RS-25's (Canadian currency, but still)
