RIP, My Panny A-110 died

Well my Panasonic A-110 gave up the ghost this weekend. I’ve had it since 1997. In reality it started the downhill slide about 2 weeks ago when my wife and son managed to break of the front panel of the drawer ?? Then it started to display the word “unlocked” in the display window. You had to unplug for 10 seconds the power it back up to get it working.

This weekend the video started to go. From color to black and white and a video stutter thing that made me nauseous. I tried replacing the S-Vid cables but the problem remained. Plugged in my cheap Norcent and all is well.
I only needed the Panasonic to last another 5 months.

In the last 2 months my satellite receiver, AVR receiver and DVD player have all had some kind of issue. The satellite receiver just up and died. The HK developed some kind of center channel crackle noise. Then after two attempts to fix it they lost the receiver and ended up giving me a new one from this years line up.

Then on the weekend the DVD player dies.

When it rains it pours.

Hey, considering the Panasonic A110 was the subject of a class-action lawsuit due to defective/faulty lasers that failed after 6months for many people, you should be happy it lasted so long!

Sucks when hardware dies, though.

Oh I almost forgot. While my HK was getting fixed, my olderish JVC receiver decided it didn't want to decode the DVD audio bitstream anymore.

Yeah, looks like my xmas shopping will include a new DVD player.

Damn the man!!!!! How did you hear the audio, or were you watching the "silent" versions of current Hollywood blockbusters?

Peace...

Well let me tell ya TK. We arrived home after a party with our neighbors and decided to watch, The Concert for Monserat

I powered everything up, and no sound. Checked the audio setup on the DVD player and some cables along with the JVC receiver and nada. I even checked it the next day when I was awake and sober.

The only way I could hear it was to plug in the L-R audio cables.

I tried everything I could think of to get the digital out working but nothing.

Well, as long as your cheep-O Norcent lasts a few months longer, maybe you can talk the wife into letting you get one of those new fangled HD-DVD players
