What do you think? A 147in screen, or 159in with a seam?

I'm getting the JVC RS1 projector. I'm sold on using high power screen material, just not sure of the size. Due to the way it's made, the largest high power can get is a 147in screen. If i go to a 159in screen, there would be a seasm running horozontally along the image. Now one guy on AVS claims he can't find the seem at that size after specifically looking for it twice. IF I did notice it, it would only be visible in bright scenes.

Both cost the the same since the 147in is a custom size, either will be plenty bright with high power. What would you do?

That's a tough one.

I would worry about the seam as well.
Who are you ordering it from? What do they say? Is there a way you can see something with a seam in it?

Obviously the bigger the picture the better (provided the projector can handle that size).

Ordering from AVS, they say it's a toss up. No way to see a screen with a seem, those people that even have them are rare. And yeah the projector can handle it, 1080p, and according to the projection calculator, I'll be getting around 16ft lamberts per square ft at 159in(with my current pj and 120" screen, I've had maybe 4ft lamberts)!

While 12" may seem like a lot, at that size it only boils down to a 7.5% increase between 147" and 159", so I would totally go for the 147" and peace of mind.

Same here. My movie theater screens can't be left folded for more then a few days if they are being installed or you will see the folds. So a seam to me seems worse then a fold. At a 147" i would rather have the peace of mind then anything. Especially with the High Def movies you will be playing on the screen at 1080p. The colours really jump more then the regular dvds and if that seam shows its face in brighter scenes i would be a bit worried

147" definitely. 12" isn't that much difference on those figures.

Photos when set up would be nice?

Well..If I couldn't see one myself I think I would go with the 147"
I wouldn't want the risk.

I gotta agree. Someone showed me the lines that show up in the trinitron computer monitors about 2 months after I bought one, and EVERY time I went to a white background page, BANG! There they were I was SO pissed...cause I never saw them till he pointed them out

Right after you pass the point that you could have returned the screen, you will find that seem. If you can't see it first hand before you buy, I would take the safe bet.

i would say you are still gaining 27" and go with the 147". No use taking the risk. What is the price difference?

No seam. 147" will more that satisify. I'm going up 10" on my next screen to 120". However, I hope it's 120" of scope.

No seam. 147 all the way. I had my Proj set at 120" for a while and that was Massive. I hope you have a big ass room for the 147 inches.

Really the room I'm in could support a 159in screen easy. But the ceiling fan would have had to go, and in Texas, you don't wanna be without a ceiling fan. With my speakers the room needs to be 13.6ft wide for the 147in screen, and new new room is 15ft wide. There is no price difference, since the 147 is a custom size, the charge you for the next size up, that being 159.

You guys have talked me into it, 147 it is. Your right, an extra 7% isn't worth the $800 mistake the screen would become if I ever noticed the seam.

Really a thread about a screen for a 1080p projector goes in the standard def section?

Is the screen itself hi-def? The thread itself isnt it about the projector, so i wouls say that is a throw-up.
