Sony STR-DE925 Equalizer help

Hello, Does anyone else have the Sony STR-DE925 (DD & DTS). It has a very weird way of setting up the EQ. Has anyone else had any success getting it configured to their liking. ANd could someone take the time to explain to a newbie (me!) how to operate it!

Thanks

I have the same receiver. It has a parametric equalizer. You're probably more familiar with graphic equalizers. Parametric EQ's are more commonly found in high end equipment as they result in a "smooth" frequency response curve.

If you imagine a normal EQ, when making adjustments, it usually sounds best if you make some sort of curve with the sliders. With a parametric EQ, the EQ makes the "curve" for you, as if you had an infinite number of sliders available. You just tell it at what frequency you want the sound increased, and how much, and it decides the best curve to do it.

So, to add more deep bass, set the "BASS FREQUENCY" to something low, like 60hz. Then, increase the "BASS DB" to your liking. That will result in making the very deep low end sounds louder. If you decide that it's not catching enough of the low end, you can increase the "frequency" to around 80-100hz. That in effect "moves the curve" more towards the center of the EQ.

I hope this is making sense, it's not easy to explain without a visual =)
