South Park Series DVDs
Hi! It's just turned Christmas here in the UK and I I've torn myself away from South Park's "A Very Crappy Christmas" to find out if this amazingly funny episode is on DVD.
I found it, as well as another Christmas South Park compilation, but does anyone know if they're releasing the entire series (okay, I'd make do with season one first!) like "The Simpsons"?? Some of these shows really are funny, and I'd love to get these Christmas episodes (the "Circle Of Pooh" just cracked me up), but not if they might make their way to DVD other than in the random "themed" volumes so far released. Anyone have any word from Warner/Paramount/Comedy Central on this?? And does the CC logo appear in the corner of the screen during the Christmas DVDs?? Thanks - and a very Merry Christmas!

South Park has just completed its fifth season. It has produced 79 episodes in five years. 39 out of those 79 episodes have thus far been released on DVD. They are not being released by season unfortunately. The releases are as follows:
1998: South Park Volume 1: 4 Episodes South Park Volume 2: 4 Episodes South Park Volume 3: 4 Episodes 1999: South Park Volume 4: 5 Episodes South Park Volume 5: 4 Episodes South Park Volume 6: 4 Episodes 2000: Christmas In South Park: 3 Episodes South Park The Chef Experience: 3 Episodes 2001: South Park Presents Timmy!: 4 Episodes South Park Winter Wonderland: 4 Episodes Note that this is a total of 10 DVD's containing 39 episodes, and that no episodes are repeated. I hope this helps. |

Options are 15 individual volumes (very expensive way of buying it) and/ Season Box sets. The UK has the first 4 seasons. (correct episode order) As for the US, Warner have decided that they are going to continue with "best ofs" rather than season releases. |

This is fascinating. The show is done in the United States, yet Australia and the U.K. get more episodes and complete seasons. I am rather upset by this news.
The information which I posted in my previous message is absolutely correct for American DVD releases. Do you have a URL where I might see exactly which episodes are on these DVD's? I would like to see what I am missing. |

The same thing seems to happen with a lot of US series that are released. I'd have to guess the shows are harder to catch in Europe, and the DVDs aren't as readily available. So the European audience that will buy them is a hardcore audience. Whereas in the US everyone can watch the show and go to any store to buy them.
So the US audience for US shows is obviously much larger but 90% of the people buying are very casual fans, the European audience has to do some work so although smaller is probably 90% hardcore fans. I don't know if that theory holds water - I've watched the Simpsons in Germany and Switzerland, even seen in on French tv. I don't think other US creations are that available. The opposite doesn't seem to hold true - European series released in toto on American DVD, we have Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, but those are probably also available in Europe. |

To check the South Park out go to www.ezydvd.com.au
This will give you a complete listing of each episode in each disc. And plus at the moment only $19.95 AU so $10.00 US... Im starting to buy em up.. IN relation to another coment about availability of viewing, on free to air TV in Aus, South Park is on once a week, and the simpsons probably about 7 - 8 times.. and on pay tv heaps i think. I dont have it, so i am not sure, but at one stage south park was on 5 times a week

I think Warner Brothers originally was releasing South park in chronological order, and then bundling those dics together. Volumes 1 thru 3 are the first 12 eps of the series, and Volumes 4 thru 6 are the second 12, er 13, thanks to the infamous April Fool's Day episode.
Hey, there's a question...did South Park outside of the US make the April Fools Day episode with Terrence & Philip available? I'm not even sure how universal April Fools Day is, so who knows if the joke was as appreciated as it was here, or UNappreciated as the case may be. But in any event, after the first 6 volumes, WB decided to stop issuing the shows in chronological order, and base the sets on particular characters or events like "The Chef Experience" or "Christmas in South Park." Though I'd much rather they release these still in chronological order, at least it's a little easier to appreciate a cartoon like this out of order, since the characters don't age. Sure some characters might suddenly seem to pop out of nowhere, but that's how many of the characters come into being on the show anyway. Not every character gets a dramatic introduction. Plus, the level of animation hasn't gotten THAT sophisticated, so the continuity isn't so much of an issue.

Actually it is a horrible way to release episodes. They should release an entire season packaged as one unit, as "The Simpsons" and "The X Files" are doing. However, the worst part is that the number of episodes per year is reduced:
1998: 12 Episodes 1999: 13 Episodes 2000: 6 Episodes 2001: 8 Episodes That is bad. They should have at least kept to 12 Episodes per year. |
