Ghostbusters 1 & 2 box set

I see Ghostbusters 1 & 2 advertised as a set on some sites and it appears that it comes with some sort of box. Can someone please confirm that this is the case and does it come with the same individual cases and discs that you could buy separately? Also, is it possible to buy the case separately (mail order)?

The set does indeed come with a slipcase/box; it basically mirrors the cover art on the original dvd cases. And the contents are identical to the originals, keepcases and all. Unlike the Jurassic Park deal, you can't get the slipcase separately.

That reminds me ... I have to send off for my JP slipcase.

You can buy them separately.

Ghostbusters 1 is an awesome, packed DVD with restored special effects and great audio. It's got a run-length commentary and run-length production notes, each providing tons of info about the film. Deleted scenes and other extras round out the disc.

Ghostbusters 2 is the movie and the trailer. And did I mention the movie?

I got them together because the price was right. If the extra $10 for the inferior film doesn't make sense, just get the first movie.

I can't remember much about the 2nd movie. I've seen mixed reviews, some even saying the 2nd was better than the first, or that it was funnier, but with fewer special effects. I saw the set for about $22 at DeepDiscountDVD.com, so I thought I might sell my Ghostbusters 1 and buy the set and get the extra box. At that price, I guess I might as well have both. Anyone think they might re-release the 2nd one with more extra features like the 1st?

The box set comes with both films and a paper slipcase - nothing spectacular. This may sound odd, but it's cheaper to buy both seperately.

Lol. The second one better? Not a chance.

Every moment that Bill Murray is on-screen, it looks like he really wishes he were somewhere else.

GB2 wasn't that bad. The original is the best, but the 2nd is respectable.

I was at K-Mart the other night and they're "New Low Price" on GBII is $8.88. I bought both in '99 for $25.99 at Sam Goody :rar: !

There's no way to say one is better than the other. They are both extremely good.

Bill Murray looked fine in the second one to me. He was as funny as ever.

Both are great great movies.

Agreed. These are two of my all-time favorite films, literally. I absolutely love both, and although a lot of people rank on the sequel, I find it every bit as enjoyable as the original, and at times, both more entertaining and funnier. GBII has sort of a different tone, but both movies are similar overall, and it amazes me that some people can love the first and hate the second.

GBII was recently reduced in retail price to $14.95, which means that you can find it for under $10 in stores, which is a STEAL. Not worth the effort to unload the original to buy the box set, since the slipcase is just the covers themselves really anyway. GB2 is a great movie, and a beautiful looking DVD, although I really hope it gets the fullblown Collector's Series treatment that the original got. It deserves an audio commentary (with the silhouettes again would be cool), deleted scenes undoubtedly exist, maybe the music videos, and some nice featurettes. Maybe the price reduction is a sign towards it, though I'm not holding my breath, since when I asked at the Columbia TriStar chat a while back (last year I guess), they said they had no intention of releasing an SE for Ghostbusters II. At least it looks great in widescreen. I tend to watch it around this time of year too, for its New Year's Eve theme.

The only person preventing a 3rd Ghostbusters movie from being made is Bill Murray.

Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis want to make one, but all 3 own the rights jointly.

Evolution from this summer directed by Ivan Reitman with an appearance by Dan Akroyd was supposed to be the next best thing to GB3. I think Bill murray has too many other prospects to worry about and the three have obviously grown older and bigger than they were in the eighties. The screenplay was apparently written or at least proposed at one point. It involved a doorway into hell opening in New York and the demons from beyond invaded the city. Too bad, that sounds cool.

If they had done a Ghostbusters III about 8 years ago, it could have worked. They're all too old now, and the idea of training new Ghostbusters would be really awful. (**Shudders at the prospect of Will Smith in a Ghostbusters suit**) They let that opportunity pass, and it doesn't appear that there will ever be a third one. It would be really cool if they could get Murray and Aykroyd and Hudson and Moranis to join Ramis & Reitman on a commentary track for the second film, but I just don't see it happening. I'd buy it in a second though.

Bill Murray is not the reason for no GB3, it's Sony (which owns Columbia). They didn't like Aykroyd's final version of the script and didn't want to approve the $120 Million budget. Although Murray didn't show interest, Ramis & Reitman were right behind him. Aykroyd left the Sony lot as a result.
