James Bond Box Sets?

I'm an avid James Bond fan which is why I have a dilemma that I would like some feedback on.

I currently own the 1st and 3rd James Bond Box sets and I'm missing the 2nd one as well as The World is Not Enough. Now I know they are all currently out of print because they are going to be re-released with new covers some time in the near future. What I want to know is should I try to get the 2nd set (most likely on ebay or some other source) or should I get rid of the other 2 and get the new ones when they come out. I know I can probably return the other 2 to any retailer and get store credit (to buy more DVDs) since it's right after Christmas and most stores will take returns on just about anything without a receipt. I could use the subtitles glitch as an excuse.

Also, does anybody have an idea as when this new James Bond set is coming out. I read and seen information about the big box set that is going to be released in Europe but no definite word on the Region 1 version.

P.S. My NUMBER 1 DVD pet peeve is when a studio initially releases a movie on DVD and later on re-releaes a more deluxe edition which is why I'm very skeptical about buying a bare-bones DVD (the number 1 reason I do not currently own Pulp Fiction on DVD). I really got jipped with this dilemma when I bought the first edition of Platoon to see a special edition released over the summer. I'm also stuck with the current editions of Resevoir Dogs and True Lies due to be re-released some time next year.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it goes like this. The first release of the Bond films on DVD were lackluster versions. They were later replaced with excellent new versions with all the bells and whistles and are currently out of print pending release of the newest Bond film in the theaters at which time they will be made available again. No new transfers or abything like that, just re-released in their present form.

I think this is everyone's pet peeve here and all of us have gotten caught in this dilemma at one time which is why I bought the Canadian release of PULP FICTION which was loaded with extras. The same with GINGER SNAPS which also had tons of supplemental material AND was in its OAR unlike the US release.

From everything I have managed to dig up on this is that the new James Bond re-releases will be exactly the same with extras and all as the previous out of print releases (the 3 sets I metioned above). The only difference would be that the new releases would get new and different covers.

On a side note, the 2 box sets I own each have a different kind of snap case probably due to the fact that they were released several months apart.

I also think (due to the European version I saw to be released) that all the James Bond movies will be released in one big box set (imagine the price tag on that) instead of 3 separate and scatterred ones.

My question is should I try to find the 2nd set or wait for (not confirmed) the new complete set due to be released sometime in the near future (my guess is when Bond 20 comes out in theaters)?

It depends on how much you love the series. If it's just going to be the same release with some new coverart, get the 2nd Box Set now. The new set won't be released until Bond 20 is on DVD sometime in 2003. I know I'm getting them all now (I've found it cheaper to buy them all seperately on eBay than to pay close to $200 for only 5 of them).

Has there been any info about that Bond pack that is to be/has been released in Europe that has all 19 Bond movies to date and a sleek looking metal case for them? Last I heard, it was Europe only, but I guess I'm just hopeful that Region 1 gets some lovin' like that...

I bought them all seperately. You could get them (and probably still can) on the cheap. I think I paid around $13 each for them. I got most of them at Costco and some at Frys.

These are great discs. The documentaries are excellent.

I went ahead and purchased all 3 box sets and paid more than i probably should have but the discs are so good that I don't really mind.
I think EZYDVD.COM.AU have got the Region 4 boxsets (Almost Identical to Region 1) in the sales at very reasonable prices.Might be worth checking out!?

You guys all seriously need to get a good multi-region player

I bought the UK set (came in an awesome metal display tin...with room for Bond 20 even (which is currently being occupied by Never Say Never Again)...all special editions, and doing the math, I ended up paying about $15.00 per film after doing the currency conversion (and that factored in shipping too).

I can't recommend the UK set enough!!!

BTW I got my multi-region player for $160.00 on ebay...the only thing it didn't do was play PAL anamorphic but buying a Wega with the 16x9 compression option fixed that up

Just buy the second Box if you are a James Bond fan. Where is the question? Never ask just Buy´m
I really never ask, is there sometimes a better release of the movie, if i do so I never will buy a DVD. On the extrem, maybe in some (i hope 60) years there is something better than DVD and i have to buy al my movies on the new format, and believe me that will be a lot by than.

Thanks for the Feedback

I'll get the 2nd set as well as TWINE probably through ebay sometime in the near future. I also saw one at Media Play about 3 months ago which is probably gone by now.

The cool thing is that I got the 1st and 3rd box sets from a friend for only $200 and they were still sealed with the original price tag on it. Apparently he got it for his father and I guess he didn't want it or something.

You might want to check some of your independant retailers for the 2nd box set or some of the titles from the 2nd box set. I came across Goldeneye one day and none of the other big chain stores had them! I'm guessing MGM is doing limited DVD release schedule for their Bond franchise, like Disney does with some of their animated movies. I think, on a specific date, MGM pulls them out of circulation from the big chain stores but smaller independants are neglected. Check them out, MeyerLansky!
