different Shrek cases

I noticed at one store that they had copies of Shrek that came in different cases. Some had a big opening on the side, like most cases, and a few had a narrower and shallower opening. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there's any difference on the inside of the case. I saw in another thread that people were saying they didn't like something about how the discs were arranged in the case and that it looked like a cheap case, so I'm curious if they might have changed the cases for later copies. Also, some cases seemed to be just a bit longer than the others. Also, I'm going to buy a copy that doesn't have the game piece, since I heard the game piece leaves a mark on the case when it's removed.

I believe that one version of the case has the two discs facing each other with Disc 1 in the flipover thing and the other version is just like the Cast Away/Phantom Menace dual-amaray case. Not totally sure about that, but I know for me, I have the booklet inside, then the two discs facing each other, with Disc 1 in a little flapover thing and Disc 2 just on the back of the case. Strange case in any event and I definitely prefer Disney's Double Alpha cases.

Yeah, my Shrek case is the one where the discs are facing each other. It is really annoying since it is difficult to get the booklet out of the case the way the discs are arranged. I don't think the free ice cream cone is worth the plastic holder it came on for the gamepiece, mine won't come off for anything.

Tape. All you need is a simple piece of tape. Took me about five minutes, and you can't tell the crap was ever on there to begin with.

Any way to tell from the outside which case is which? And, is there a web page that defines the different types of cases in general? I see the word amaray, but I'm still confused as to what the different types are.

Thanks.

Well it's far too cold and late for me to explain the hubs of the amaray and alpha cases, but in terms of 2-disc sets, dual amarays are the single-disc-width cases with one disc in a flap-over thing that is smaller than the rest of the case and Double Alpha cases are the 2-disc wide cases with 2 full spaces for discs that all connect together to close.

Ah heck, that probably doesn't help. Sorry.

LBPound described it well. Raptor, here's a site that sells cases and they have pictures showing the aplha/amaray cases.
DVD Cases.

Alpha cases can be found on titles like Snow White and many FOX 5-Star titles such as The Sound of Music and Cleopatra. (Is The French Connection a double-disc, btw?)

Amarays (double) are more popular, and look like a normal-sized dvd. It just includes an extra "tray" for the second disc.

Thanks for helping me understand the differences ... I just found this page that has a comprehensive listing of DVD cases, including ones from other regions:

http://www.math.ttu.edu/~kesinger/dvd/

Still not sure, though, if the inside of the Shrek case is different for the cases with different outer-styles, or if they're both the dual-amaray.
