Freaks (1932)

Does anyone know if Freaks is coming to DVD? I thought I had read somewhere it was coming but I can't find the information again.

Freaks link: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0022913

Freak Out!

I haven't heard anything yet, but really want this DVD. I still have a VHS copy that I bought in the early 90's.

Now you'll be One Of Us!

I'd like to see almost all of Tod Browning's existing output on DVD, especially his films with Lon Chaney. The Unknown is one of the most bizarre movies ever made, and the original Unholy Three is also a good one. Devil Doll with Lionel Barrymore deserves the dvd treatment as well. I have all of these movies on VHS, either bought or taped off TCM, but I'd buy them in a second if nice DVD packages came out.

What I really want is a box set of all the existing Chaney films. Now that would be worth something.

Me too! But only if done right. A perfect example of classic films with hack job DVDs is the Focus Sherlock Holmes Box set. Sure it includes 15 hours of the radio serial, but the transfer is sh!t.
Read the review at DVD Verdict

Did you ever read Dark Carnival the biography of Tod Browning? It's very good.

Where do you find the best DVDs of classic horror films?

Hey, NOW we're talking.

I agree about Chaney and THE UNKNOWN. Kino has several excellent Chaney discs available; look for THE PENALTY, which has lotsa great extras on it. Read Michael F. Blake's first two volumes of his Lon Chaney biographies. And pick up the Image releases of HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. And if you can find it, nab Image's MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES, too!!! My top choice for a Chaney DVD would be HE WHO GETS SLAPPED, perhaps his greatest film. Perhaps.

And yes, I'd love to have FREAKS as well.

Apparently, it's available in the U.K. and Amazon.com has it listed as "coming soon".

Here's a good Freaks site, complete with pictures and audio clips (for any fans out there).

Ha, by coming soon Amazon really means...

"Maybe coming soon?"

because the expected release date is January 1, 2010

pretty funny...

one of us...one of us....

I'd love to get this on DVD. It needs some TLC...my VHS of it can be hard to understand at times....the audio needs cleaning up! One hard to forget film....Hope it doesn't take 8 years to do!
