Movies From The 50's and 60's

Over the past few weeks i've relized that i actually like movies from the 60's. being a teenager, ive never really added any movies past 1970 to my collection. but recently ive purchased:

The Magnificent Seven
Paths of Glory
The Train
Seconds
Bullitt
The Great Escape
Dr. Strangelove

and some others. anyway, they were all pretty good. my question is; if you were gonna buy one of these first, which one would you get, Kubrick's The Killing or Frankenheimers The Manchurian Candidate. is there any other movies from the late 50's, 60's i should be considering?

Check out Spartacus, Seven Samurai (1950s), Hitchcock films. Also Touch of Evil is really good. I could go on for a while but I won't. Check out www.imdb.com and the top films to find out what people vote as the best films of specific decades.

John, of the two films in your question, I'd go with The Manchurian Candidate.

If you're into musicals (not everyone's taste, I know) get West Side Story. On the lighter side, The Music Man and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers are fun. And there's always Singin' in the Rain.

Some other non-musical titles, in no particular order:

Lawrence of Arabia
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Mister Roberts
Romeo and Juliet (1968)
Tom Jones
Cat Ballou
The Time Machine
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Producers (just re-released on VHS, DVD should follow soon)

...and probably many more that aren't coming to mind right now.
