Will Paramount or Lucasfilm be in charge of the Indy DVD's?

I'm hoping these movies are given the same unbelievable treatment SW ep. 1 was given. I can't imagine seeing Raiders (the greatest movie ever made IMO) with that sound and picture quality. Paramount, on the other hand, seems to do only ho-hum DVD work (while I'm at it, I hope they get the Beberly Hills Cop DVD right). Does anybody out there have an Raiders insight/opinions?

My guess is that Lucasfilm owns the Distribution rightes to this, so it will be a LL release, complete with all the bells and whistles of a LL release, IF it ever gets released that is

Yep,

As stated on this very site, LucasFilm productions controls the rights to this film.

From what I hear, rumour at best, the DVD's are in production and may even be released this year. Take that with a pound of salt though as I heard it from none other than Dark Horizons.

In regards to ample extras and getting more product onto the shelves, I might agree, but can you really make the claim that Paramount's attention to sound and picture quality is ho-hum???

Paramount no longer has the rights for INDIE IV but they still own the video rights for the trilogy. Unless Lucasfilm or Dreamworks buy them.

So, if Paramount do the dvds, no dts (same if Lucasfilm do it btw). If Dreamworks buys the rights, you can bet Spielberg will push for DTS.

I was referring to extras and the like w/my "ho hum" comment..I should have specified or rephrased I suppose. The KEY to a great DVD is, and always will be, picture/sound quality. Raiders deserves the FULL treatment, however.

Honesty, I'm pretty fed up with the long painful wait of the Indy trilogy and Star Wars trilogy. I love these movies so much, and they were a big part of my childhood, but I'm sick of hearing all these rumors and stuff when other movies are coming out all the time. I guess I won't hold my breath until I see confirmation on these rumors, or see them on the shelves. 2005 or 6 for Star Wars? Give me a break. I guess I'll at least look forward to Back to the Future trilogy since there are at least advertisements for them on the Australian copy of Jurassic Park III.

I agree. Lucas' excuse about not having the time to devote to the DVD's right now was very lame, but we just have to grin and bear it. It looks like we'll definitely be waiting until mid decade for SW OT DVD's. I certainly hope Raiders isn't on a similar path, and I don't think it is. We see Raiders on DVD this Christmas IMO..just a hunch.

Like you said, at least other kick ass stuff is coming out while we wait.

I've heard 2006 for Star Wars. I am not even getting my hopes up for that one -- I don't think I will ever own it, as much as I'd like too. I want "Star Wars Classic" and I doubt that will ever be on DVD. Pity.

Right now I am really excited about BTTF coming out this year and hope that doesn't turn out to be wrong.

I would love to see Indy on DVD, I just hope that it is done right and the wait is worth it.

I really hope Dreamworks can take back the Indie trilogy under its arms....... that would bode well for great dvd transfers.

but, Paramount has still the video rights and likely in December 2002, we'll see RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

I can envision already my PCM laserdisc will sound better than the dolby 5.1

same for my 2 STAR WARS trilogy (1993 THX CAV and 1997 remastered AC3 and PCM boxset).

hey, even the Japanese ld of TPM sound better and deeper than the EE dvd

you would not believe how still good a laserdisc looks like when processed by a scaler or an HTPC

I can see the Star Wars DVD box set coming out in 2007 with the 30th Anniversary of the first. That would be so shitty! 5 year wait. And no one will care because we'll be talking on www.hddvdfile.com! Thank god because I already registered that domain.

hey

he sure could release the trilogy on dvd just before HD DVD starts ( it's a possibility ) in 2006 or 2007. he did it with the AC3 laserdisc : the dvd rose and the ld died. at that time, ld owners reached a peak.

If Dreamworks bought the rights to Raiders, then they'd have to be digitally altered. Remember how they always incoporated the Paramount logo in the opening shots?

Besides, unless Lucas actually told Paramount "There's no way I'm ever putting these movies out on DVD unless Paramount sells the right to (Studio X)," Paramount will release them.
