Estimated DVD Spending?

OK guys, I keep hearing these wild stories of people like PDJ purchasing an estimated 5 DVD's per week.

Thinking of my own situation, roughly 3 DVD per week, I wanted to get an idea of how much money you put out per month on DVD's.

For myself...... 3DVD per week X 4 =12 DVD with an average cost of $23.00 Canadian per DVD =

$276.00 Canadian per month

for American $ X .65 = $179.40 per month

Looking at this way makes me realize how much I spend on these damn things. Ugh

I don't really buy per week, but per month and I've slowed WAYY down.

On average these days, I spend about $60 / mo on DVDs (give or take).

Peace.....

ugh.

5 is a lite week lately!

Yesterday was 11 items, two of which were sets (Buffy & Roots), and the total tab was $242. (& I still haven't found 3 things)

Granted... this was a big release week AND BestBuy was having a pretty good sale on some older stuff I'd not picked up yet.... so this was kinda more than usual.

The next couple of months are looking pretty painful. But it's that 'hurts so good' kinda pain.

As long as the rent, the car payment, and the other bills get paid.... the rest is fair game for dvd procurement.

Hey.... I could be spending my money on cigarettes, booze, crack, & hookers.... but I don't fancy any of those;.... my only vice is DVD.

Ahhh addiction....

I try to limit to 6 dvds per month, I think most of the time, average of which costing about $20.00 per disc. So that makes it about $120 per month, though lately I've been spending a lot more than I normally allow myself because I just got a raise and there are so many great releases.

I am week but it feels good.

I've averaged 2 per week since I got my player in April 2000. I don't feel so bad now after hearing some of your hard core spending habits.

Right now, Im trying to get my collection ''up to date'', so that I only have to buy new releases rather than catalouge titles. I think, I drop about $50 canadian a week on average, but since Im doing it hardcore as of late, its about $100.

Once I do get into the new release only range, it should drop to around $20

It's unusually high this month (actually, this week, to be specific).

I picked up three DVDs and a DVD set yesterday, which totalled $92+ with tax, and I've got about 7-8 bids on martial arts pics on eBay (thankfully, I can combine shipping with this dealer )

I don't think I'll be picking up any other North American releases this month, so it shouldn't be too bad on the credit card statement. :p

I've actually only bought 1 dvd this month. which is Sixth Sense Vista For $19.99, oh and Newsies for $16.99, I will be buying a total of 3 this month. Rat Race being next. I spend an average of $50-$100 a month or less on dvds.

I've only bought two older titles cheap on eBay this whole month. I was going to pick up Mad Max, but I've only been able to borrow a friend of mine's copy. January has just been a very slow month for me. The next DVDs I'm getting now will be the Slap Shot SE and the new Stooges disc at the end of March (unless I find another cheap older title sooner).

Back in the Fall I was averaging 6 or so a month, but now I'm lucky if I fit 6 in every 3 months. The Summer should have me well set, though.

i just did the math, its been almost exactly 4 years since i started collecting and i get an average of 6-7 discs per month. 325 dvds total, average $25 canadian each, about 1.5 a week for 208 weeks.
some months are big of course, this year Star Trek TNG, Simpsons Season 2 and Xfiles Season 5 will probably all be out in the same month.. UGG!

My current average is 2 per week(200 in 2 years).
Just got a raise so that gonna change.
Good thing I don't smoke, drink, eat junk food or dine out(I'm a great cook- of course that leads to kitchen utensil addiction too).

friends and i have decided to keep a running total of purchases this year. cds/lps and dvds [how many of you have a disgusting music habit as well]? i think i'm at about $250CAD and we're just half way through the month... i don't usually have an average number of discs either, its just whatever is out that i fancy, i pick up... luckily, there's nothing coming up in the next few weeks that i really want [other than the Nine Inch Nails and Bjork releases]

I really need to quit smoking. I used to max out at 6-7 DVDS a week, but the cigarettes and bills have got the best of me. Since then, I have only been able to get one DVD a week now, I'd say I spend about $21-22 bucks. Saving Private Ryan has been the latest.

I've bought 147 DVD's since last February. So, you figure about 12 a month, but lately, my buying has gone way up.

I''ve got about 75 dvd and have had a player for 15 months, so I guess that's ~5 per month, or in canadian ~8 (just kidding eh). I seem to buy a lot during november and december b/c that's when all the big summer movies come out. There's not really that many more that I want, so I can just stick to new releases, which is good because I need to save up to go back to school in the fall.

About 20/month for me, and the average is $17/$18 per. So $350 a month. I came to the game late - Dec 2000, so I was buying 1997-2001 releases last year. Now I'll just be getting new releases that should cut down on the spending.

I usually get about 4-5 movies a week, of which about 1-2 are usually new releases. I still have about 30 more movies I want that are already out. Not too bad for an out of work 17 year old.

Wow, Its official we are all extremely pathetic.

To rationalize I'll say that at least I dont buy drugs, porn, etc. I have a basement suite with cheap rent and a girlfriend thats very non-materialistic, so I suppose its all good. Although I really should buy a car.......

Thanks for input all.

What the hell do you do for a living PDJ? To buy 11 DVDs (nearly half of what I've collected in 1 1/2 years) in one day is beyond me. You either have money up the wazoo or just really love DVDs.

I feel for pdj. I'm the same way a lot of times. I don't know what my average per week would be, but if there's only one or two titles coming out in a week, I'll often wait for a week like this past Tuesday and sortof splurge. Not that I was too bad this week. I think I only got like 5 or 6 titles, not counting the multiple disc for Tron, Buffy, etc. After my Xmas haul left me a bit unsatisfied (one movie, that was it. Gee, ain't I spoiled ), I went in a dropped about $350 US at Best Buy w/out feeling even a little guilty about it.

I'd still say, despite my wierd habitts, I probably net about 3 movies a week or so, after selling off the titles I somtimes buy on a whim, or in preperation for a forthcoming special edition.

HAHA that's funny. I'll bet you didn't feel one bit guilty about spending that much when you only got one DVD for Christmas! Shame on Santa! LOL

Anyways, I vary really. You see, I collect DVD's action figures, movie posters and the like. But recently I've sacrificed action figures for DVD's. I want more movies!

Anyways, I get maybe 5-10 a month right now....

I would get more but I quit my job at Target (don't ask.... well if you really wanna know, I quit because the people there were a bunch of meanies don't ever shop at Target in Cary NC!).

And I have to really watch my spending habits now sadly. I have a car payment, a synthesizer payment, gas to buy. But I still manage to buy DVD's every now and then with some money left over from the family run mini storage business me and my family work at.

I tend to buy in spurts. I always have impulse buys at stores, too, if I see something I've been looking for (or didn't know I was looking for). But I'll usually order the DVDs in batches of 20-30 every couple of months. My last order to DeepDiscountDVD was around $500, since I'd taken a hiatus on buying for my collection during the Xmas gift-buying frenzy...
