The Goonies Aspect Ratio?

Can anyone with the Goonies DVD please check and confirm the actual aspect ratio? Some sources (like the dvd case) state 1.85:1, while others say it's 2.35:1.

Which one is it really, 2.35:1 or 1.85:1?

Thanx in advance!

It's 2.35:1. The DVD is framed correctly, and the case says "scope." I don't know why the one you saw said it was flat; that's wrong.

Hope that clears things up.

The Region 1 Goonies DVD I have is definitely 2.35:1, and anamorphic as well I seem to remember...

Get it anyway for one of the best audio commentaries ever recorded...

Interestingly though, the deleted scenes are approx. 1.85:1

Might have something to do with the fact they were originally completed only for television versions of the film.

PS- Dom, DVDFile.com has a great searchable review archive and you would have found this info there. You might check out that site sometime

99% of boys who were young teenagers when it was originally released will tell you it's the bee's knees, but I'm part of the remaining 1% who think, and have always thought, that it's utter, complete, worthless and embarrassing crap...along with THE FLINSTONES, the nadir of Spielberg's executive-productions...

Warner don't do 1.85:1. They do 1.78:1.

I'll join Filmmaker in the 1% who couldn't stand it. I was 20 or so when it came out; did that make me too old to appreciate its charms? I guess so.

Goonies was one of the first movies we used to break in the family VCR when I was a kid. That, along with Top Gun and Battlestar Galactica. This was when you could rent any movie for a week. That ruled!

I was barely even born when this movie came out but my older cousins would watch it all the damn time. So as I got older I grew up watching it. I love this damn movie. It rules!

i wasn't even born when this came out but that doesn't matter.

this was the first dvd i bought and definently the best. the quality of the picture for such an old film is amazing.
the only problem is that it doesn't contain many of the deleted scenes

Yes, but see, the thing is - the review said this, Warner apparently said something else. Who you gonna trust?
This is why I wanted info from the horse's mouth.

Guys I saw it in the summer of '85 and it was wide.
Is the film good? Hmmm, it's a fun movie I liked as
a kid, shunned as a teenager, and much to my surprise
liked a lot when seeing it nearly a decade later. I rank
it in a class with Krull and The Last Starfighter as a cool
movie that I have a sentimental attachment to, but I can't
really call Goonies a classic and keep a straight face, can you?

Goonies is the ultimate movie!! I was about 6 when it first came out, and probably 8 when I first saw it on television.
I can remember actually thinking wow - they swore. So, it kind of stuck with me. And even know, what 16 yrs later, the film still rocks.

It's interesting that you should mention swearing because Goonies was one of the Very last "Kids movies" to feature a lot of cursing and dirty jokes "Wouldn't be here if it wasn't"!

I remember I first saw Goonies back in like 86 at my grandpas (I was 3 or 4) and I loved it. This was back in the day when he was the only persson I knew with a VCR. I remember always loving this film and loving it even more when I saw the Disney channel version with the cut scenes. Cut scenes have always interested me since I was little (Star Wars, T2)
