Deer Hunter

I almost bought The Deer Hunter today for 15 bucks, which is fair. But Deer Hunter is my favorite war movie, and I would rather hold off if there's going to be a Criterion type edition with a bunch of extras. So my question is: Any word about such a edition of Deer Hunter?

I would love a much better DVD version of this movie also. I've looked around in the past, but found nothing. For now, we are stuck w/the bottom ring DVD treatment.

I'm w/you, this is a GREAT movie. The parts where they are forced to play Russian roulette gets me every time, along w/several other parts.

I've heard the transfer on the current dvd isn't that great, which is why I've hung on to my laserdisc, which has a reaaly crappy transfer. As important as this film is, it deserves a better treatment.

I live in Steubenville, OH and they filmed it in Mingo Jct., OH (kinda like a suburb of Steub.). My Great Aunt used to see DeNiro rehearsing everday. OK just my bit of useless info.

I've got it but only because it's The Deer Hunter. It's in pro-logic which is a crime for this movie. I'll be replacing it with a digital surround version toot sweet if it becomes available.

I haven't bought a copy of Deer Hunter yet since it's more likely that it will be released as a Special Edition.

I too would love to pick up The Deer Hunter as a $19.95 fulfillment @ Columbia House, but I'm sure there will be a re-release in time. Nonanamorphic 2.35:1 is pretty rough, and I'm sure if they went ahead and made it 16:9 enhanced, they'd remaster the video and give us DD 5.1 audio.

I've been meaning to check out this flick. What a great cast! From reading everyone's impressions, I feel rather embarrassed that haven't seen it nor heard anything about this film.

THe cover for the current disk looks beautiful. I hope they do a special treatment of this film because it does look like a great film.
