Vista Series ???

So what makes a title a Vista Series canidate? Are all films from "The big D" potentials or does it have to be under the Buena Vista studio name ? What about Miramax? I guess they have thier "Collectors Series" I'd like to see Vista Series releases of Pulp Fiction and Swingers with lots of other titles that are in need of good SE, that would be cool.

And whats the big deal anyway? Sure they have cool packiging, usally dts and a good transfer, but otherwise I dont really see a big difference than most SEs

It's not really a big deal. It's just a name and a line. I personally don't view them as being superior to Miramax's Collector's Edition Series, other than the fact that they've always been two-discs and anamorphic. But it's just a name, and you wondering what the big deal contrasts with you requesting that Pulp Fiction be a "Vista Series". If it's re-released as a two-disc anamorphic, DTS "Special Edition" in a double Alpha keepcase, would you be unhappy?

I know that I've been pretty darn impressed with the 3 that have come out so far.

Can't wait for Pearl Harbor & Roger Rabbit!!! (& whatever else might be in store!)

Whats so great about Vista Series is the name. You can mention to someone (who knows about DVDs) that "so-and-so" movie is coming out on dvd and is going to be a Vista Series. And right away that person will know what to expect: Cool packaging, two discs, anamorphic, DTS, etc. Its better than just saying Collectors Edition or Special Edition cause every single title comes out with those labels now and some are packed like the Vista Series and others are bare-bones and still carry that label. But if something is a Vista Series you know it is gonna kick ass!

MAN I CAN'T WAIT FOR ROGER RABBIT!!!!!!!!

I too have not been pleased with Vista Series. Everyone of their dvds seems to be missing serveral dvds that are important, and that all Special Editions should have.

Unbreakable - No commentary. Slim on features.

Sixth Sense - No commentary. (Haven't seen the features)

Tombstone - Heard the picture was to sharp. And slim on features.

Seems like they could have fit this stuff onto one disc. But 2 makes it look better.

Little Sidenote: I was trying to talk a guy into a trade, and he said he wanted Fight Club, and offered me like Austin Powers 2, saying that it was a better dvd, and Fight Club could have easily been a one disc dvd. Can you believe that? Hehehehe

Well, you can't blame Buena Vista for M. Night Shyamalan not wanting to do a commentary. Plus I think he pretty much said everything he had to on The Sixth Sense in all the bonus material. Only thing is it's not the same as watching it screen-specific. But it's his decision, don't hate the Vista Series cause of it.

Vista Series have cool packaging and are nice sets.

The Vista Series to me is the best line of dvds out there. I think they are perfect in every way. I can't wait 'til Pearl Harbor & Roger Rabbitt, and hope they continue bringing wonderful films of which deserve this kind of treatment of dvd to the vista series.

I thought the three releases so far were done well (especially Tombstone), but I cannot wait for Roger.

And (hopefully) by year's end, we'll have a Dick Tracy VS as well.

I own 66% of the Vista Series ( Don't have The Sixth Sence yet ) and I will say, that so far, I am pleased. It's all about the Picture and sound quality. If it looks and/or sounds like crap, then what good is it? Al the extras in the world won't make me buy Star Wars Uber Collectors edition in P&S. That is an extream example, but hopefully you get the picture.

Vista Series, Super Bit, Fox Five Star, Universal Ultimate Edition, Damn near anything from Dreamworks

they all get my vote...

I'm very impressed with the 2 titles that i own (Unbreakable and Tombstone) and i will be buying The Sixth Sense at some stage, even though I have the original edition.
I can't wait until more of these babies are released (he says with fingers crossed, hoping for a Crimson Tide Vista Series )

I personally prefer Paramount's "Widescreen Collection"

They charge more for the DVDs, they don't have any extras, and the picture/sound is not even that great on many of the titles.

I'm extremely glad that Tombstone got a Vista Series release, the other cover (with that unconstitutionally ugly purple banner across the top) was horrid as was the DVD.

Unbreakable was Touchstone, so yes.

Sixth Sense was now-defunct Hollywood, yes.

Not sure what Tombstone was....but to my knowledge there hasn't been a Miramax title scheduled to get Vista Series treatment....yet.

If he really thought that Austin Powers was a better DVD, why was he trying to get rid of it? Personally, I didn't enjoy Fight Club, but the whole DVD Package was pretty cool.

It's a fair bet that Miramax titles will remain in the domain of Harvey and Bob, but anything picked up for distribution by Buena Vista, or originally financed by Disney/Touchstone/Hollywood is in line for the Vista series treatment.

Both the upcoming "Roger Rabbit" and "Dick Tracy" discs originated with Touchstone, although they at one point were marketed as Disney pictures.

"Tombstone" was a Hollywood release, partnered by Cinergi, the same as on "Evita", which I also hope gets the Vista treatment. In fact, Criterion put out a great laser set (licensed by Buena Vista), so hopefully this will get transferred across as Criterion or Vista.

The Vista series was created so that Disney could put out their own series of Special Special Editions without having to spilt profits with Criterion (think "Armegeddon", "The Rock", etc).

I think they're doing pretty well, but it would also be great to see a Vista edition of "The Rocketeer", another Disney/Touchstone underrated picture that deserves better than the version we have now.

I like the Vistas so far. I don't like Tombstone so I won't be getting that, but Roger Rabbit, and Dick Tracy are definitely on the list.

I love the series so far.

BUT for each release it all chould have been been put on one disc, maybe by putting the extras on 2 discs the picture quality is all the better for it.

PLUS given the fact that they would have cost the same price anyway, does it matter?

Hey Disney, what about two of Tony Scott's Touchstone pictures?

Enemy of the State and Crimson Tide both need special edition treatment badly. How about adding them to your Vista Series roster? Considering the fact that neither of the original releases were anamorphic, DTS was nowhere to be found, and the extras or lack thereof were weak.

I'd much prefer a Vista Series edition of these two titles, rather than a 4-disc set of Pearl Harbor.
