Legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay,

I don't want to spread any false rumors here , but according to the Digital Bits' Rumor Mill, Universal's Legend Ultimate Edition may finally be coming in May. Nothing's official yet, but I guess I'll just try to enjoy this news while I can before they delay it again.

I thought we were getting a bare-bones like next month, then the super-duper-special-edition later in the summer?

Europe is getting a barebones release a little bit before we get the suped-up version. The best part about the director's cut is that they found a complete negative for it, so they didn't have to attempt to find the deleted scenes and cut them back in less-than-seemlessly. Just some restoration work, I'd imagine, and it'd be ready to go. Structurally this thing is gonna be completely different than the theatrical version we all have seen. Its more than just 30 minutes of additional footage, its a difference in shot legnth and arrangment of shots/scenes, which will reflect in Jerry Goldsmith's (YES!!!) nearly complete score (I say nearly complete because he scored the 125 minute cut of it, which Ridley cut down to 113).

Personally, I'm really really excited. And I do, for the most part, believe the May 21st date given at Digital Bits. Don't ask why.

So is this going to be the multi-version disc we've been drooling over for some time? I have a Japanese laserdisc with a different running time, and the Goldsmith score (which if you haven't seen the film with the Goldsmith score-you haven't seen it-it blows the crappy Tangerine Dream score away!)
I'm just trying to figure out if I should dump my laserdisc on eBay before the DVD comes out while it's still worth something or not!

You might hang on to it, or sell it as soon as possible, depending on which way you look at it. As smurdleman said, the DVD will feature a never-before-released director's cut. The only time this was ever seen by anyone but the filmmakers was at a 1985 test screening in LA.

I agree that the Goldsmith score is superior and much more appropriate. Unfortunately, even in the European version (on the Japanese LD) is hacked to pieces, along with the score.

At any rate, this is why this DVD release is being anticipated so much.

It's about time. This disc was supposed to release the same day as Gladiator.

I do indeed hope the rumor is true.

Drat. I'd entered this thread hoping it had something to do with the TV series, Legend, starring Richard Dean Anderson.

Well, the movie is good too ... Tim Curry made a great "Big D."

this disc will include the original cut of the film, though it is so different than the director's cut I don't know if seemless branching would work. it WILL be on there, though. count on it. and count on a crap load of features, including what will be a VERY interesting commentary by Ridley Scott, and all the stuff they could find of the lost fairy dance sequence, sans any footage (it was lost for good, unfortunatly).

I've been waiting for this dics for a LONG time (like everyone else) and am tired of getting yanked around. I believe it when I'm holding it in my hands.
