Which one should I buy (or not)

There's two DVD's I'm interested in purchasing, Bram Stokers : Dracula and The Fifth Element. As you know, there's a "standard" version and a Suberbit version for both. My question is which one is the better buy?

I'm not exactly a home theater enthusiest, so I don't have the HDTV or 5.1 surround setup. I heard some talk around here about them possibly releasing SE's for both these titles. Should I wait to see if they release special editions of these (where I can enjoy some suppliments as well) or buy now?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

If I had the setup you have I would get the standard editions. Theres no need to spend extra on disks that you can't take advantage of. Unless you plan on upgrading soon.

I own the non-superbit version of "The Fifth Element", so I'll speak to that.

I was initially 'what the?' about the Superbits until I was able to see side-by-side comparisons of certain scenes in that movie. I'll spare the details, it's in a thread that I think tomdkat started that references this guy Bjeorn (sp?) and his website....this website has the screenshots, and what a difference! (the thread also discussed edge enhancement, I'll try to dig after this post and sail it to ya).

Anyway, this did convince me that to the casual observer, you may not see the difference. But if you look closely you will (HDTV or special equipment or not)....and once you see, you won't be happy with anything less (at least, that's the way I am).

So my vote is Superbit. I have yet to upgrade mine, it's on the list .

As for extras, yes it would be nice if SB had them. I enjoy extras, it kinda depends on the movie....I like them better in 'old classics' to view over and over. Newer movies -- I may watch the extras once, but for a better transfer I'd say, fine, leave em out.

Naturally the best bet is a 2 disc Superbit set with all the extras, but that WAS covered in another thread!

Probably which ever is the cheapest. I'm not sure if they are planning to release an SE version of the two.
