Canadian DVD Shopping Sites & Harry Potter

Hola:

TheDigitalBits are confirmed what I was hoping would be the case....

The Harry Potter DVD will be the "Philosopher's Stone" version in the UK & Canada....

So........ being the nerdnick collector & HarryPotterPhile that I am, I must own this version in addition to the "Sorcerer's Stone" version that the US gets.

That said,.... what's a good Canadian DVD Shopping site, eh?
I assume they'll ship to the US, no?
Canadian DVD's are Region 1, right?

The UK release date is 5/11 (as opposed to 5/28 for the US).... I wonder if it'll be 5/11 for Canada?

I've used www.directvideo.com in the past and I really like them. I checked their price on the upcoming Harry Potter and it's only $16.66 !!!!

Try www.playcentric.com

If you sign up on their mailing list, they send coupons usually worth $2.00 or more off every item you order. Before ordering, I would double check on the title but it should be Philosopher's Stone. When I got Good Will Hunting from them, it was the Alliance version.

The Philosopher's Stone is a mythological substance which turns lead to gold. The first Harry Pottter book involved this very stone. But, since we Americans are so unbelievably stupid and uncultured, we got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, so we wouldn't think it was a book about Plato and Descarte.

The rest of the world got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and when it came time to make the movie, the movie title followed suit with the book title. Interestingly enough, throughout the film, nobody ever says Sorceror's Stone or Philosopher's Stone while their mouths are visible in frame, making the dialog replacement as easy as can be.

One of Canada's biggest sites to buy off of would probably be www.futureshop.ca although I believe they only ship within Canada so that wouldn't help you. Another other place you could try is HMV.com (although pretty pricey). Other than those two places there arent' really that many big retailers that sell DVDs that also have a good website to buy them off of.

Actually.... there are a few spots where you do see mouths (Seen it 5+ times, so... um... yeah.... i'm a nerd.)

There's a scene where Nicholas Flamel and the Stone is being read about in a book... & you can see it printed as "Sorceror's" on the page. (This was just an insert... so that was easy to do twice.) In that same scene .... Hermione says "Sorceror's" twice while directly facing the camera.

I think there's one or two others..... but just a very few total.... & pretty easy to have the actors just do it once each way.

Thanks for the site rec's guys.... it looks like playcentric.com is a good one to go with.... it even makes a selling point from the fact that it's the Philosopher's Stone version.

Try here, it seems to be the most popular.

http://www.absound.ca/music/dvd/dvd.html

As for playcentric.com, I find their prices are too High, most are MSRP.

I read about this in the newspaper when the movie was first coming out and I laughed out loud. Nice to know that Hollywood and publishers have so much confidence in its viewing and reading public!

playcentric.com have to be the most dodgey R1 sellers... Bad memories.

I Heard someone on here saying that the extras will be poor.. check out www.michaeldvd.com.au - this site has some specs of the upcoming R1 disc. Sounds like it has some more stuff!!

There's a ton. AB is a rip BTW. Yeah, there's a discount, to more than the list price on other sites! wtf?

Try thunderdvd, videoflicks.ca, videomatica (expensive), entertainme.ca, dvdpassion (slow).

I've only ordered off of thunder and they've always come through, no hassles or glitches.
