Ocean's 11 Artwork, or Damn you, Warner Bros!

The original artwork:

The crappy artwork we're getting for the DVD:

Am I the only one annoyed by this?

Not the worst cover I have seen, that honor belongs to Yojimbo/Sanjuro. But I agree the original one seems to be much nicer.

they probablly just wanted to show off the big bad cast they broke out for this film. my tastes, like yours it seems, go towards the original movie poster. in many cases i think the origianl art is better than what we get (one example i felt like mentioning: i just found the box to the original VHS copy of "a christmas story" and i like it so much better than the green cover of the newly issued copies)

They fucked up on that one! Plain and simple.

Yes the new one shows the pretty stars' faces, but the other one looked great! And this new has no association with the oiginal theatrical run! Have some balls Warner, and stick to the original.

To answer the original question. Yes this is annoying. :rar:

Well I again will stand alone in the sea of OCDs that populate this forum and say...

For all the time I spend siting and staring in awe at the covers on my DVDs I don't think the original cover art vs. a white fuckin' CD envelope (you know the kind...with the round cellophane window) will make little difference to me.

I hope it's a snapper!

I don't like that cover at all. The poster is so much more artsy, then just having the actors faces on the cover. That's fartsy! :barf:

I guess I'll be the devil's advocate. I never liked the original artwork. I think the dvd cover, while not great, is still a big improvement.

While I prefered the original artwork (less is more), it's not gonna matter to me in the long run......I'm still going to enjoy it, regardless of the cover.

Why can't they be like the cool Fox Five Stars (the Alien discs are also cool) or the Ultra-Amazing Universal discs? Not only is that the worst cover I have seen, the features look terrible also. WHEN IS WARNER GONNA LEARN!!?? :barf: :flush: :p  :rar:

That cover is about as useless as a :jawa:!

Warner's not the only offender when it comes to cover art butchery.

In my opinion, a good number of Colombia/Tristar's special edition covers look just awful. Here's some examples, to prove my point.

The original cover for In the Line of Fire (left), and the inferior Special Edition cover next to it.

Up next is Glory. The original (left), and the Special Edition hack job.

Finally, Bad Boys (1995).

I could be wrong, but I think all three of the original DVD covers for these films were the theatrical one-sheets. Does Colombia, or any of you guys actually think the SE covers improved upon the originals??? I say no.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. I'll still buy it. But why does WB use snappers because they're cheaper and then pay someone to design a butt-ugly cover when the original art is rather striking?

The only reason that I can come up with why Warner didn't use the original poster art is because it looks a lot like their classic film cover art. ie. lot's of white in the background.

That In The Line of Fire special edition cover is classic. Big Clint and little Clint. "Hey look, Clint Eastwood's in this! And look, little Clint has a gun!" I hate the processed morphy style of all these photoshopped covers. DVDs are starting to look like Master P album covers.

I prefer the original artwork, but Warner will want to showcase all the talent in the movie on the DVD. Regardless, I'll be buying the movie because I found it highly entertaining.

HAHA, notice going from all the original cover art to the special edition cover art that the actors names and faces become bigger!

Their idea is that you will walk past the shelf they are displayed on and see clints big ole nogin on the case and go "Hey, Clint Eastwood movie" then you look at who else is in the movie "Renee Ruso!, Johnny boy!, woo hoo".

I mean look at the glory covers. You got the cool picture of the soldiers rushing in with the tiny pictures of Matt, Denzel, and Morgan then on the new cover they zoomed in on their heads so you know who is in the movie. The orignal art work tells what the movie is about, the special edition junk just trys to sell it by telling the consumer who is in it.

But that Ocean Elevens dvd art work is butt ugly!!!

They could have at least stayed with the theme of the original art. Have the actors lined up how they are but make the background pure white. Then have Oceans Eleven written in red with the actors name in black, or vice versa.

Wasn't crazy about the original poster or the new art. The change is welcome...but they could have done better. Nevertheless, it will be in my collection, snapper and all.

I'm not sure about Glory, but the second ones (special ed.) of both In The Line Of Fire and Bad Boys, were the original posters that were hanging in our local theatres at the times of their release.

YEAH!!!! That's the one I REALLY loved. The teaser poster (Pictured in the first post) I thought was adequate, but the red normal theatrical poster was just the coolest!

More ranting and raving about this very topic can be found in my new "Sexy Beast cover art" thread-- RIGHT HERE ON THIS FORUM ^_~

Thanx,
Brook
