Could it be that this is the year I get all 3 of my favorite Spielberg films on DVD (A.I., E.T., and DUEL) Yes, those are my favorite Spielberg films. Looks like a great year.

I guess they are refering to Spielberg's illustrious career.

I think it's a tad strange that the cover states it's widescreen, since it was filmed for television with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1. However, it was reframed at 1.85:1 (sucessfully, so I've heard) for European Theatrical release, so I'm guessing its that version we'll get, with the 15 minutes of additional footage and the matted widescreen.

How f*cking cool is that cover?!!!!
So much better than the LaserDisc's, it's not even funny...The widescreen issue is perplexing, however, and I hope it's just an error on this preliminary packaging. Though the movie was matted for European theatrical release, 1.77:1/1.85:1 isn't the format it was originally shot and intended for, so I fervently hope they keep it 1.33:1...

A great film! A great cover!
Hopefully a great DVD! I'm really looking forward to this one. I was relly blown away by this movie when i first saw it on PBS when I was about 14. It truly is one of my 4 or 5 favorite Spielberg films. |

Cool beans. Now all we need is The Sugarland Express
![]() ...and Indy and Schindler, of course ![]() Wait, could it be that those five movies are the only ones in Spielberg's ouvre (sp?) that aren't yet set for a definite DVD release? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's pretty cool. I guess you could count Twilight Zone: The Movie, his Amazing Stories episodes, and other various short works. As for the aspect ratio, 1.85:1 wouldn't be a total disaster since it was widely shown in theaters at that ratio, but I agree it really should be presented in whatever ratio it was originally framed for. I'll leave that up to Spielberg; I'm sure he has to sign off on this.
