The canadian version of Cronenberg's eXistenZ has three audio commentaries (with Cronenberg, his director of photography, and someone else I can't remember) and a documentary on production designer Carol Spier

Here is a partial list of Region 1 DVD's that the Canadian versions have slightly better features than their American counterparts.
Again, these are Region1 titles: Red Violin Transpotting Ginger Snaps Good Will Hunting Pulp Fiction eXistenZ I was told the Lolita remake (Irons) had additional features as well, but I couldn't find any. -Flash

Apparently the canadian release of Memento has a branching option to watch the movie with the correct timeline. And in the U.S. there is a version of Requiem for a Dream with less special features and a bunch of stuff cut out to make it rated R. (Why you would WANT that I could not tell you...)

I though the Canadian version of "The Red Violin" was full frame and didn't have the DTS track on the American disc? |

John Ryder: i ordered Buffalo 66 from CNL thinking it was the Universal one, turned out to be the Lion's Gate. UGLY cover. anyways, popped it into two of my players and the thing wouldn't even load -- i ended up exchanging it at an HMV for the Universal one. i think they've changed their exchange policies now (:
American Psycho: actually, its the other way around. the canadian version is the unrated, and the US is the R. Good Will Hunting: i give up on this disc. i think i went through FOUR copies, another friend of mine went through another... none of em worked... cdnow has shipped my copy of Cube and i am very happy right now... along with a few other things (can't wait for my goodies...) screw the alliance ver of Cube! |

there's no real difference to the discs other than the ugly artwork on the lion's gate version... you've gone through TWO bad copies of the disc?? lovely. |

I own the Lion's Gate BUFFALO 66, and have never had a problem with it at all (in 3 viewings so far).
I own the Canadian GOOD WILL HUNTING, and have had no problems with it (in 2 viewings). I own the Canadian AMERICAN PSYCHO, and it is indeed Unrated (I thought the US had both an R version and an Unrated version? In Canada, the Unrated versio is the only one shown in theatres and now on DVD). I own the Canadian GINGER SNAPS, and it is phenomenal! It is anamorphic WS (vs FF US version), has 2 commenatries and a TON of other extras (vs. a trailer on the US, I think). CUBE & THE RED VIOLIN have shitty Canadian versions compared to good US versions (i.e FF vs WS) PULP FICTION, TRAINSPOTTING, GOOD WILL HUNTING, eXistenZ all have superior Canadian counterparts (same transfers, but more/ different extras on each) - Pulp & Trainspotting have more deleted scenes; Good Will Hunting has deleted scens as the difference I think; eXistenZ has the extra commentaries. I have the Canadian MEMENTO, and the option to watch the film in "reverse" (i.e normal chronology) is crap. The just rearranged the scene selections to it the new order, but you can only play the movie ONE SCENE AT A TIME! (i.e. go to the menu after each chapter, and select the next scene!) I think this option is pointless anyways, but I'd advise you just use the PROGRAM option on your DVD player to make your own "normal chronology" of the film, it's really quite easy, and might be few to try out on PULP FICTION as well! |
