I'm on A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE like white on rice, and SOME FOLKS CALL IT A SLING BLADE is definitely welcome on my wanted list, but I'll pass on the rest. My wife will buy SAY ANYTHING..., but until the deliriously whacked-out VANILLA SKY came along, I never found a Cameron Crowe film that I've liked*, including the much-lauded SAY ANYTHING..., which (among it's many problems) features a woeful instance of miscasting in the form of Ione Skye...yuck...no chemistry with John Cusack at all, and ugly as a platypus to boot, in my unpopular opinion... :barf:

* = In all fairness, I haven't yet seen ALMOST FAMOUS, so that may also become a Crowe film I like somewhere down the road, and I do love FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, which he wrote, but didn't direct, so Crowe's not all bad--it's just that most of his stuff totally fails to engage me, especially JERRY MAGUIRE, which is the hands-down worst so-called love story I may have ever had the extreme displeasure of witnessing... :flush:

Oh, boy: A home release of A.I. The most exciting thing you can watch on TV since they did away with test patterns.

March 5 is Bob Hope day, with four of his road pictures (including the best, ROAD TO MOROCCO) with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour, plus some double features (including MY FAVORITE BLONDE and Hope and W.C. Fields in THE BIG BROADCAST OF 1938, in which Bob sings "Thank for the Memory"), plus GHOST BREAKERS and THE PALEFACE.

A lot of very funny stuff and must-haves for vintage cinema comedy buffs.

I'll definitely will be picking up AI and some other that I've meaning to add to my collection possibly one of the following:

Groundhog Day
Insomnia - Criterion Collection
The Vanishing - Criterion Collection
My Man Godfrey - Criterion Collection
Against All Odds - all right it seems an odd thing on this list but I am in the mood for something 80's

Only three titles for me this week:

AI
Evil Dead
Say Anything

May pick up Hearts in Atlantis since I didn't pick that one up the day it originally came out.

Sling Blade's a possibility. If I happen to stumble upon it, and it's a good price, then probably.

Mine aren't super interesting, pretty much the same stuff that everyone else is getting.

Evil Dead LE - been waiting for this release for some time now.
Say Anything - I love that John Cusack. In a hetro way, of course.
AI - Haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

maybe...

In the Mood For Love: Criterion - we'll see...

and...

all those full frame, bare bones Fox releases that'll be cluttering the shelves.

NOT!

Probably just Say Anything.

I didn't get anything this week though, so I might have to double up next week. I still need to get Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

pdjennings raises an interesting question, so here is the official release date run-down:

SLING BLADE (non-anamorphic, movie-only edition): 02/03/1998

SHORT #1: INVENTION, Featuring "Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade" (mediocre transfer, from what I've heard): 11/23/1999

"Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade" (new version, with bonus features and, hopefully, an improved transfer over SHORT #1's): 03/19/2002

SLING BLADE: Special Edition/Criterion Collection: No date set; not known to be officially in production at this time

Just Say Anything... here. One of my all-time favorite flicks. On second thought, I may do a C. Crowe double feature and pick up Singles as well. My remaining gift cards at Borders should just about cover these two.

Oh yeah, I guess SINGLES was pretty decent (I'd forgotten about it), though my wife has played it enough times that I don't really ever need to see it again...so I guess it's just SAY ANYTHING... and JERRY MAGUIRE that I don't like, especially the latter...

I was hoping to pickup A.I., The Last Castle and The One, but since I came in to work this morning only to find I may be out of a job in thirty days, it doesn't look like I'll be buying a damn thing.

Well, I'll not be getting A.I. (lack of interest, sorry)

I will get Book of the Dead LE and some more catalog titles and anything else I forgot to mention.

I got my tax return about a week ago and I still got it intact, (well, I did buy some dvds with a little of it...) other than that, it's still all good for me.

Sorry if I caused any confusion about Sling Blade. It's just a coincidence that I'm finally getting the disc just before the 'short' version comes out.

BTW, for anyone interested, Meet the Feebles has been delayed to March 19 also.
