Requiem for a Dream : Directors Cut vs Normal

I have just watched (for the first time ever) the above title in it's Directors Cut format. A very dark, but wonderful film as I'm sure most/all of you would agree.

What I am wondering :

a) Is the Directors Cut that I have viewed the superior version?

b) What exactly did it add that was not there in the "normal/theatrical" version?

Thx...

The Director's cut is the superior version. It contains much more graphic footage, making the film harder to watch but all out more memorable.

Is the DVD only the director's cut...or are there two versions available? I saw it in theatres, and this scene is not one I recall. This one in another thread too.

It was ONLY shown in theaters in the UNRATED (Directors Cut) version. The edited "R" version was just created for BlockBuster and the like.

Plus... the edited DVD does not contain any of the features contained on the Directors Cut DVD.

Yeah, the "director's cut" is the original,l unaltered theatrical version. Anything else is just created for Blockbuster and Hollywood Video (stores you should only rent at if you support film censorship). As far as I'm concerned, an R-rated cut doesn't exist.

I think the reason people don't remember the "ass-to-ass" sequence is becuase the climactic point of the film (where it is located) is so incredibly intense it's difficult to make out what's going on. I've seen the film countless times, so I know just about every single shot in the picture.

Thanx,
Brook

I recently purchased RFAD DC and I watched it a few days ago. I didn't find it hard to watch at all. I found that I enjoyed it and thought it was a damn fine movie. Very intriging nonetheless.

I say RFAD Directors Cut over the regular. (of course)

Keep in mind that it was a home viewing of the picture. With "Requiem for a Dream" a theatrical viewing is MILES different from watching it at home!

I feel so sorry for all the people who didn't see it 'till it was released on DVD, seeing it in the theatre was a billion times more intese -- it was REALLY cool!!!

Thanx,
Brook
