OK, I watched DOGMA (...from Clerks thread)

As "agreed," I watched Dogma (thanks to the free Starz preview, I didn't have to leave the house).

MUCH MUCH better than Clerks (IMO).

Not being a big religious study, the complexities may have to take a few days to sink in before the overall "vision" of the film hits me, but I enjoyed watching it. Not sure it's worthy of a purchase on disc (althought that 2 disc set is tempting)...

****SPOILER****
I was a bit disapoointed that of all people, Alanis Morissette portrayed God....but at least she looks better (with heavy makeup) than she sings.
****END SPOILER****

First impressions.... 3 or 3.5 out of 5. Future Kevin Smith films are up in the air...but at least not out of the question if Dogma had sucked.

Dogma is the worse IMO. Clerks is the best. Me, couldn't find Dogma as funny or really amusing. But I'm glad that you thought it was good.

Ahh... somebody didn't watch the entire film

Hint: Let's just say that she provides ultimate closure to the ViewAskewniverse.

I hated Dogma. I don't think portraying God as a woman is clever, because I've seen that before. Even Chris Rock as a black apostle wasn't funny, since ALL apostles were black, or at least very dark skinned. It was more played to people who haven't studied relgion much. I think most people who have studied religion just weren't surprised or given insight by any of it. Without that catch, the movie just plays like a bad comedy with one or two good jokes.

Glad you saw it 007eleven and gave it a 3.5.

May I recommend Chasing Amy as your next look at into the Smith universe

Dogma was fantastic. If you look past the dirty jokes (which worked fairly well, IMHO), theres a pretty serious message about faith to mull over. The seriousness was a lot more subtle than in Chasing Amy (which, while being very good, kareened wildly back and forth from serious drama to comedy in a sometimes-jarring fashion).

Kevin Smith is maturing methinks. I can't wait for him to tackle Fletch.

How could someone rate Mallrats last? So what if it 'bomned' and theatres, it is still extremely funny, and as good, if not better then, Clerks. Chasing Amy is the best though.

Yes, but why did that closure have to suck so hard?
