Monster's Inc. Cover Art

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet..... (the cover, I mean).... but I saw this on Amazon:

Spiffy But... is it me.... or is the color off a bit? Sully's looking a touch too green....

Yeah there is definitely something wrong with that picture. The furry guy is too green also.
Maybe it's just a bad scan?

Yeah, Amazon's colors seemed to be a bit off...maybe it's one of those shiny kind of covers, but here is Buy.com's picture (which they've had up for a while now). Looks quite nice (with the colors correctly ):

Actually, I just noticed there are some subtle differences between the two, so perhaps they're still in the process of fine-tuning the artwork. The Toy Story DVD releases went through several tentative artwork before the final releases of the 2-Pack and the UTB.

Yeah, it looks as if the top one will be the Ulitmate Edition, if you will call it. The colors are off probably because it has shiny art, similar to Fast and the Furious, which doesn't scan well.......

...and the bottom is probably the much cheaper version that will be about 10 bucks cheaper with only a few extras.

To me, they both look a little bit too tall to be DVD cover art.
And wouldn't they have a little DVD logo in one of the bottom corners if they were actual cover scans?
...I'm just saying is all...

Except that there is no "cheaper one" this time. It's just one 2-disc set.

2 different pictures...

It's two different pieces of art (hopefully the bottom one is the final one).

There are differences:

1) Boo's hands are in different positions

2) Mike's smile is turned upwards more in the first pic.

3) The flower is missing from the door on the top pic.

In fact, I'd say that each picture is an entirely different render of the CGI scene.

Plus, no Randall in the top one (final one, I guess) and the title is in a different spot. Weird.

Nice artwork.

The art SilentBob has linked to looks suspicious because the door is very jpeg compressed (look at the lines of the door) and the rest of the image is incredibly sharp. If it were all compressed at once, Sully's fur and Mike's spots would have been lost in the compression.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, it's just something that jumped out at me.

I like this artwork instead of the more complex one for a few reasons, but mostly because Mike's grin looks better.

Actually, I think that is just the detailed texture of the door. Gotta love Pixar's attention to detail!

Although some of the ringing around the door area does look a little odd.

Whichever version of the artwork they go with - and the colors in the final version will be fine - I hope they use Randall hanging from the logo...cool touch!

I really hope that's the artwork they go with. The picture of the DVD artwork I had seen is the one with the white background with Sulley and Mike standing next to each other.

BTW, is Feldon23 referring to the mosquito noise around the doorknob?

Anybody know what it's called mosquito noise?

I just call it JPEG artifacts.

The whole door has edge enhancement, blurriness, and blockiness, but Mike and Sully are crisp, with perfectly detailed fur.

The biggest difference I noticed was that in the firs tpicture, it casts a staright shadow that looks unrealistic. The second picture features a more realistic shadow cast on Sully and Mike.

I said above that the first 2 images looked a bit tall to be DVD covers. I think that this is only true with the second cover.
I'm guessing, and would bet money that the second image is the cover art for the VHS.

I think it was probably just prelminary art before they decided on changing stuff (removing Randall, making Boo have her hands up, etc.). Not sure why they'd do it, but I think the original one posted (albeit with the correct colors, thank you Amazon! :p ) will be the cover for the DVD and the VHS cover would be the same thing without the top bar across. Slightly different proportions as always, too. Does Disney still do those clamshell cases for VHS cassettes? Wow, thinking about it, I haven't seen a new Disney video in probably a year...most stores have separate DVD sections and I just don't even look at VHS. Who still buys those things?!
