Kids movies on DVD

Ok, I'm a bachelor who lives alone and I have no kids. My brother was in town recently and had his 4 yr old with him. I had NO movies to entertain the lad. I played the scene from Driven, where they drove through the streets, and the Darth Maul vs Jedis scene in Star Wars Episode I to entertain him.

What kids movies do you guys recommend?

I'm thinking:
  • Toy Story I/II
  • Shrek
  • Atlantis
  • Lion King
  • Monster's Inc.

for starters... what else should I get?

Peace.....

Snow White is a must have! I have five younger sisters and two younger brothers, so our collection is full of kids stuff.

Personally, I'm not much on Snow White, but Disney really unloaded the guns on their amazing 2-disc set. It's out of print now, but almost every store I know of still has them in stock.

This page is also very helpful:

The Tigger Movie is good.
The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh is coming out in May. Really, you can't go wrong with Disney.
Next month Warner is releasing a bunch of Batman cartoons.
We recently had a guy who linked to a site where you could buy ice age, but alas, that link has disapeared.

Here's a list of the 40 major animated "classic" films that DIsney has done and their DVD status:

I can verify for the accuracy of EVERYTHING since i update it.

I personally recommend:

Peter Pan: SE (i don't own it, but i think most kids his age would like it)

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (i watched this movie like 2 times a day when I was like 4-5 years old.)

Dumbo

Any of the Walt Disney Treasures would be a big enjoyment as well.

James & The Giant Peach is a good one, you can't really go wrong with Roald Dahl... and obviously Disney is a good bet - Pinocchio, Peter Pan & the Pixar movies are no-brainers for kids (and great for us grown-ups to )

I've watched Cats and Dogs with kids and they thought it was a hoot. (I like it too) He might like Max Fleischer's Superman if you can find it. The VeggieTales Ultimate Silly Song Count Down is good too.

If the 4 year old is a boy....The Iron Giant and Space Jam usually keep 'em quiet & glued to the screen (from experience).

Get the new "Spongebob Squarepants" DVD. The kid will like it, and maybe you will too.

I concur with this, at least for the Mickey Mouse in Living Color set, and the Silly Symphonies set. What's great is that, since they're the shorts, if he doesn't like ONE of the shorts, there's still plenty of others. Between the 2 sets, with two discs in each set, I think you'll have something like 9+ hours of stuff for him.
Speaking of shorts

Tom & Jerry's Greatest Chases
Any of the Kids DVDs from Winstar. They're older titles, and the re-created sound sucks, but the mono sound is still there, they're cleaned up real nice, and you can often pick them up for around 7 or 8 bucks

Also try Chicken Run & Superman. If he's the kind of kid that won't admit to liking "baby stuff" try Beetlejuice
