Scenes that can only be watched from behind a cushion...
Ok, we all have one of these... top scares... those scenes that make you jump out of your skin even though it's the 100th time you've seen it....
Mine is also the most obvious... the head in Jaws I also remember as a kid getting freaked and running for the cushions during King Kong... there was a scene in which Kong is peering through the window and I don't know why but it used to send me running for cover.... and don't get me started on the daleks either ![]()

The only scary scenes I can recall having that affect is The Exorcist. Any scene with Reagan already transformed is scary but the one in particular that gives a special fright is when she is talking and laughing at the priest. EEEEeekk.

The one that always got me was the blood pudding thing in THE GOLDEN CHILD. When I first saw that, it freaked me outbig time.
And those monsters in HOWARD THE DUCK

that scientists tearing his face apart in Poltergeist
when JoBeth Williams falls into the muddy pool and skeletons rise from the murk around her. Again in Poltergeist When I was little, two scenes from star wars I had a lot of trouble with: Han Solo being tortured in Empire Strikes Back (and hearing him screaming in the background), and Luke being blasted by the emporer's lightning in Return of the Jedi. Numerous scenes in Jaws: the head scene (though not anymore), the opening (what a fucking terrible way to die), the scene in the lagoon where you see jaws pull that guy underwater and then see his leg floating to the bottom, Quint's death, etc I saw The Amityville Horror when I was about ten and the entire thing scared the piss out of me. I saw Hellraiser 1-3 around the same time. part 2 scared me the worst, and the razor-blade scene gave me nightmares. Wonderful parents I have (but I forgive. they knew not what was in the film) The TV movie The Haunting, with Sally Kirkland. for some reason I can't watch this without a light on. numerous other movie scenes. I let myself be scared, which is the fun part, but some stuff is genuinly scary no matter if your letting yourself be scared or not. And just for the hell of it, the scariest book I've ever read is HOUSE OF LEAVES, by Mark Z. Daniellewski. I kid you not, I'm still scared of the dark months after reading that, and I'm 20. Powerfully disturbing stuff. And that growl in the dark...AAGH!

the first "singin in the rain" scene from clockwork orange. i love that film but i am pretty squemish about rape. i usually skip over that scene.
when i was very young, the wicked witch of the west sent me behind the couch, sometimes out the door completely (but peeking too).

The Sixth Sense always gets me. I just bought the Vista version this weekend, and I was watching the cast interviews, and it was interlaced with scenes from the movies, and those scenes still freak me out. I didn't actually watch the movie until the next morning.
I didn't want to go to bed alone after watching the whole picture. Shoot, when the thermostat goes down, I get chills...every time!

The scene in Evil Dead 2 (I don't remember character names at the moment) when, I guess in the middle of the movie when that ladys mother pops her head out of the basement and starts singing that, "Hush little baby, don't say a word, mommas gonna...."
Even though we know it was a trick of the Deadites, it didn't scare me at all, but I found it strange and interesting at the sametime. Clowns that eat children, Gage Creed and Orinco 18-wheelers, dead people singing a song from your childhood, etc. I love it all ![]() |

Scenes that still give me the willies.....
The airshaft sequence with Dallas (Tom Skerrett) in Alien any scene with Michael Myers aka The Boogyman in the original Halloween (the only one that's worth watching) I just love that scene when Tommy is watching outside the window and sees the silhouette of Michael carrying one of his victim walking outside around the house. |

About the only scene that gets me is in Texas chainsaw massacre, when leather face burst's out of the door to bash people in the head with that sledge hammer. Thats some jacked up stuff!

don't laugh but, the first time I watched Jeepers Creepers, I held on to my remote and was squeezing pretty hard. Then again, I can't take scary movies that well, but I still enjoy them, but the next time I watch the movie maybe I won't have to.

Poltergiest scared me as a child... not just any particular scene, but the whole thing. It had all the things that would scare the snot out of little kids: evil clown dolls, creepy closets, child eating trees, etc... To this day I don't like leaving lights on in the closet or the closet door open when I go to bed. ![]() |

And that right there is why Spielberg is a genius. Everything that scared you as a kid, and everything that still scares you as an adult...even if it is secretly. I agree, very scary as a kid, and I still rather not watch it alone.
