How many of your DVDs have you actually watched more than once?

A lot of DVD aficionados spend their time and money building up HUGE collections, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I just wanted to ask -- Honestly, how many of your DVDs have you watched multiple times?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people with collections in the hundreds or even thousands. Does that copy of, say, "Bait," or "Domestic Disturbance," or even "The Last Emperor" REALLY get a lot of use? There's nothing wrong with those flicks (just random titles to prove a point), but most films don't lend themselves to extensive re-watching. Obviously there are films that are classics or that have personal meaning to you that you want to revisit time and again, but what about those so-so action movies or generic star vehicles or even Oscar-bait prestige pics you've bought to bolster your collection -- How many times have you really gone back to them? Do you just like having them as a collector, or do you really re-watch most of your DVDs on a regular basis?

Bait has been watched like 5 times. I've not even watched Domestic Disturbance yet.

Donkey, I just used those two movies as hypothetical examples.

The overall question asked what percentage of your collection has actually been watched more than once.

I own 425 titles. (My collection here: http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.ht...=peter+vincent) Out of that "plethora", the ones that come to mind that have gotten more than one viewing....

Batman & Robin
Idle Hands
Rush Hour
Antz
Fantasia 2000
Lion King II
Tarzan
American Pie
Both Austin Powers movies
Beverly Hills Ninja
Scary Movie
Wedding Singer
Fight Club
Blade
Dead Alive
Event Horizon
Evil Dead Trilogy
Fright Night
Evita
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Godzilla (1998)
MIB

...That's a total of only 25...out of 425!!! Now if U ask me how many I haven't even SEEN in my collection I'm bettin' its in the triple digits! UGH!!!!!

Sure. I rewatch stuff all the time. But I've also usually got a steady stack of new stuff to watch.... so I don't do it *that* often.

but....

.... the whole point of having a DVD collection,.... is to have such-n-such a movie,... there, permanently on my shelf.... just in case I ever get the urge to watch it. Or... if a friend wants to watch something.... I can just say "here... pick something!" Or... if someone posts a thread about such-n-such a movie.... I can just reach for it and see whatever they're talking about.

Sure .... there are probably things that I own that I might never stick in the player again,..... but at least they're there in case the mood strikes me.

All of my 400 or so movies have been watched at LEAST twice. Most more then others. I've bought several movies blindly that are still sitting in my collection that I didn't really enjoy. Every now and then I put a few on EBay to thin the collection out a bit. You can only have so many DVD racks in a room before it just starts to look tacky.

In my collection of around 1000 titles I've probably watched around 20% more than once. I collect for the same reasons outlined above by Pd. I find I watch silly comedys more often than dramatic presentations. So sure I've watched Cadyshack probably over 10 times, but that doesn't mean films like The Godfather collection (that I haven't even gotten around to watching yet) are any less deserving.

All of them with the exception of Mulholland Drive which I just bought. Some are obviously watched more than others, but all have been seen at least twice.

I know everything I've had for a year or more has been watched a minumum of 2 times each - probably 50% of my collection. Maybe 1/2 the stuff I've bought in the last year has been watched twice - so 70-75% in total

I can honestly say that I've rewatched just about all of mine, with the exception of the very newest titles. There have been some discs that I realized later I wouldn't really want to see again and in that case I've sold them.

I counted 121 which I have watched more than once.

You'll notice I don't have many discs. The reason? I only buy movies I know I'll watch over and over again. If I had the funds, I'd do it like PD and Seamonkey do. But in my financial situation, why would I throw out $20 for a flick I'll watch once or not at all?

I do know for a fact that the DVD that gets the most play in my collection is Ghostbusters, which I've watched well over 25 times.

Unwatched DVDs

Now, a word on un-watched DVDs in my collection. Well I have to say probly about 50. But see I am one of those people who buys the DVDs just to have them. Say I'm in the mood for it once a year, that's enough for me. So then every year I don't have to pay $4.00 to rent it. I do have some movies in my collection that I don't even like! I just own them to own them. I probly have 400 if not more.

i think iv'e got a few hundred discs as well... of those i haven't watched... maybe 50 or so... which isn't too bad, i've sorta caught up... but that doesn't include extras. honestly, i don't think i've touched ANY extras on about 100 of those at least... i think earlier when i only had a few discs is when stuff got replayed... then the usual things like a bug's life, toy story 1 and 2, matrix to show off the system...

as for me re-visiting movies, in full, not just to sample off of... not many. sadly... a bug's life + CE, office space (WAY too many times), willy wonka and the chocolate factory + SE, toy story box, and maybe 10-20 more?

I've got lots that I haven't watched, and lots that I've watched over and over:

Princess Bride
Ladyhawke
Labyrinth
Batman
Willy Wonka
Addams Family
Addams Family Values
Blade
Blade Runner
City of Angels
Dangerous Beauty
Edward Scissorhands
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Matrix
The Sixth Sense
Sleepy Hollow
Young Frankenstein
X-Men
Homicidal (probably most notable for being seen twice in a 6-week period!)

I've been trying to watch the 'unwatched' DVDs, but sometimes you just gotta see a particular movie again! Most of my DVDs I've seen in the theatre, so it's not like I've never seen that movie.

I probably watch 50% of my movies more than twice. I'm like some of the others. I collect them to have them on hand because a) they are classics, b) I likem alot, or 3) to have a balance collection with a smattering of movies in each genre. But mostly B

The only reason why I haven't watched the others in my collection is because I keep buying new ones and haven't had a chance to go back to all of them. Of course, very often, I'll get hooked on a new purchase and will watch it over and over. For example:

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
The Matrix
Groundhog Day
Outrageous Fortune
Donnie Darko
etc.....

The one DVD that I've watched numerous times, on a constant, is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Sound of Music. Its just a coincidence that these two just happened to be musical but they are fun to watch and its seems when I can't decide on anything I will watch one of these. They are almost like comfort food...............ummmm..............yumm........That's why I like to eat ice cream while watching these.
