Um... I'm not sure if it is "hot" or not, but it is a great movie.

Definately worth the purchase in my opinion, but maybe you should rent it first(?).

This was the first David Lynch film that I saw. Unfortunately I've only seen it on video and cable. I am looking forward to having it in OAR!

When I first saw this film, while in high school, it blew me away. Its an amazing piece of work. Of course I was young and up to that point the only other film that I had seen with tone of surreal dream quality was The 4th Man (Paul Verhoeven).

I haven't seen this film for a long time but I still believe it will hold up. Everyone gives such good performances and the contrast between characters are simply delicious.

Well, Mr. Maltin....

It's hotter than hot piece of hot! I can't wait to buy the SE on June 4th of this, one of my favorite all-time films. A truly original piece of filmmaking, the likes of which Lynch was unable to match until last years mulholland Dr. (but by no means are they similar films).

The film still blows me away everytime I see it. Brilliant.

I've heard rumors of no chapter stops. That really bothers me. I don't always finish a movie so I have to FF through 90 minutes to get to where I was at. It is the same on Elephant Man & Mulholland Drive.

Does this upset anyone else?

Yes it pisses me off. What's the point? Is it so that it will force us to watch it all the way through each sitting?

Nice concept but lets not go all pretentious.

I hope they don't do that with Blue Velvet.

Has David Lynch ever heard that DVDs can fast forward? I'm not watching the whole thing over from the start.

Before this become yet anothe Lynch bashing thread, thought I'd let you know the Blue Velvet: SE will have chapter stops. I never heard otherwise, but I guess since Lynch has stated before that he doesn't like them and 3 of DVDs didn't have them, one might have jumped to a logical conclusion.
This release will have them.

While I love chapter stops as much as the next guy, most DVD players have the "resume" funtion. You just press stop while watching a particular DVD (and can even turn the player off), and when you want to pick up where you left off just press play and you're there. You could also just remember the time that you stopped watching an enter the time code the next time you pop it in.

I actually prefer to watch an entire movie in one sitting rather than lose the "mood" by stopping and going many times, but I can relate to time constraints once and a while.

Yes mee too! I don't like to stop a movie and come back to it later and totally agree it does kill the 'mood'. I don't even want to answer the phone while watching a film. Sometimes I just let the machine pick up.

I just asked those questions because I am not sure of his intention of leaving out chapter stops. My DVD player does have the, I guess remember, function so it does continue from the point where I stopped it. I was only mad the first time I discovered that Mulholland Drive doesn't have chapters. I thought there was something wrong with the disc or worst my player. That's all.

You sure can. And I can support him if I please.
I just wanted to clear up the fact that Blue Velvet DOES have chapter stops, before everyone started griping about how the DVD didn't have them.

Prancer, glad we're on the same wavelength. Lack of chapters is indeed frustrating especially when wanting to thoroughly analyze a film like Mulholland Dr.Regardless, I love Lynch's films far to much to complain too loud. i guess I'm his bitch .

no doubt about it.
Next step, wait for his Short Films DVD and (eventually) Eraserhead DVD to show up on Canadian e-bay, so I won't have to pay about $80 each to have them sent to Canada.
heh.

The lack of chapter stops (also on The Straight Story) makes sense in theory, but I was lost as to the reasoning on "The Elephant Man" disc. Did anyone else notice how many fade-outs there are in that film? A fade-out is in a way a filmmakers way of giving us a break and starting a new chapter. So why the pretentious bullshit about "mood" when he basically put them into the movie anyway. I think I counted 9 in all in "The Elephant Man."

I haven't seen "The Elephant Man" but that is a good point. While watching 'Mulholland Drive', I didn't pay attention to how the scenes changed but I would think it makes sense to put chapters in. It would be cool if he put in chapters where ever he thought would be logical. Some chapters could go on forever. Like grouping scenes so they 'make sense'. He can have as few or as many chapters necessary.

But bottom line is that it doesn't really bother me. Just curious about his intent. I know that when I sit down to watch Blue Velvet, I won't be stopping it until its finished.

Can't wait to check out 'The Elephant Man' and 'Eraserhead'
