The Commitments DVD.

Anyone like this movie? I thought it was funny as hell. The best part is in the previews when it has the sax player jamming and saying "Im black and Im proud" and some little kid looking at him like hes retarded. Fucking genius. Ive always laughed my ass of on that part when ever I see it. I got the DVD and its pretty good. I cant believe how much it sells for though! I guess cause its outta print and stuff. But its an ok movie. BTW. Its also up for trade on the Trading part of this BB

I love this film! I think this is one of Parker's best. It is funnier than heck and a great ensemble cast. I only refrained from buying it because it was pan and scan. I will just hold out until we one day get a glorious widescreen copy....

The Commitments is supposed to be re-released on DVD sometime in 2002--in anamorphic widescreen.

If you like The Commitments, you should definitely check out the other two films in the "trilogy": The Snapper (1993) and The Van (1996). Both were directed by Stephen Frears and star Colm Meaney as the head of the Dublin family (the family name changes in all three films)--he had a memorable cameo in the same role in The Commitments.

All three films are based on Irish novelist Roddy Doyle's acclaimed Barrytown trilogy of novels (his other novels are also worth checking out).

The Snapper was released on DVD by Buena Vista in December 2001. The Van is only on VHS.
