Aliens (Spoiler) Screen Shot Whats This?
Ok, I think this was brought up before, I've looked and never seen it before.
Look at this screen shot of Aliens. Chapter 4 - 0:18:15 is the time slot. As the ground craft slowly approaches the Alien vessel, there is a black vertical bar on the left side of the screen, visible only when viewing in the movie in OAR. As the shot progresses, that black vertical bar slowly pans left and exits off the side of the screen. What is it? I don't think it's supposed to be a part of the landscape. It's too uniformly shaped. Is this a part of the stage set? Blooper? What? -Flash PS. Thank you WinDVD for your cool built in screen capture utility and special screen captured folder set up. Makes screen captures a breeze.

It has stars in it.:p
(off topic) how do you screen capture in WinDVD? I swear I have tried to do this and didn't get it to work.

You have to watch the movie to see the way that thing slides off the screen. Trippy.
-Flash Seamonkey, hit the "capture" button. ![]()

Could it be a tornado? I haven't watched my "Alien" DVD since the set came out, I guess it's time to dust 'em off and watch 'em.

I don't think so.
I think Underpants was the first to bring this up. The black thing is two rectangular shaped and it's movement is too fluid to be a tornado or a part of the rocky and twisted landscape. You really have to pop your disk in to see it. -Flash

Hey, it was me who brought it up first!
![]() http://www.dvdfile.com/interactive/f...ghlight=aliens At any rate, I think the only explanation is that it's a part of the model that was never meant to be seen. It moves contrary to proper perspective so it's not just a monolith thrown in as a sight gag. Very strange, though.

I threw my copy in to check it out and sure enough, that's pretty strange, and I never noticed it before. As it moved it seemed to become transparent, my guess is that it's some sort of glitch having to do with matte work, etc. But it's just a guess.

The Alien ship in and of itself is a huge phallic symbol, but it is also vaginal if you look at the holes where the engines are. Very creepy, and understand due to Giger's love of biotechnical imagery.

Most of Giger's work is very blatantly sexual. That's his style. Well, one of his styles anyway.
Yea, it's the 2001 monolith. Lol Porkchop, I looked for that thread forever. -Flash
