Memento: LE question

Just picked up my copy today. I got to say, all those that were worried about the menus begin too confusing/ a pain in the ass to get the special features... don;t worry. Everything was set up quite nicely and very simply. I really dug the idea for this whole thing (the movie and this new release).

Anywho.... now I've only breifly went thru the disc, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anyting about or has found the way to play the movie back in the correct time order?

In any event, this release is highly recommended, especially if you're a fan of the film. The questions (you'll see...) are all pretty amusing. Good stuff.

From DVDTalk's Review (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=3815):

Quote:
If you don’t want to know how to access this wonderfully illuminating feature and would rather discover it for yourself, skip the following paragraph.

While paging through the screens and answering psychological questions, you’ll soon come across a quiz that shows four illustrated panels of a woman changing a flat tire on her car. (Depending on the way you answer questions, you’ll get to this quiz from any of the six workable icons.) The quiz asks you to place the panels in chronological order. The trick, of course, is to place the panels in backwards order. After you do so, the film begins playing its scenes in chronological order. Playfully, this cut starts with the end credits rolling downwards. After that, the film's forward-moving black-and-white sequences begin, focusing mostly on the Sammy Jankis back story. The chapters have simply been rearranged in chronological order.

I picked it up and put it back but I tell ya, it was difficult to put that back. I went on a mission for Legend so I got that. I almost went to the ATM but was strong.

So! I'll probably go to Best Buy tonight and see how much it is there. This was an excellent film and the LE looks so awesome! What a great design!

I didn't know you could play the film in the correct time sequence, that would be cool to see!

Thanks for the recommendation.

I must say this was a very well created DVD set. It's kind of hard to do it (when your dumb like me) but I'm figuring it out. This will be great!

My biggest problem with the LE was just getting the package out of it's cover! There's now a dent in the back of the disc holder because I had to pull so hard to get it out. :rar: It seems to me that the packaging was designed before they decided to insert the various loose notes. When they put in the loose notes, it became to thick to easily pull it out of it's cover. I actually ended up using my old Memento cover along with a gladiator style 2-disc holder to house the two discs so I don't ever have to use the packaging again. Anyone else have this problem? If not then I'll just take my disc back to get another copy.

As for the discs, from what I saw the picture looks quite better. The menus might be fun once or twice but will eventually get annoying. I think they should have had something like the word "Facts" that you can click on to get to a normal menu.

The chronological cut of the movie is done through rearanging the chapters rather than a new cut of the movie. I rather them have done that so everything was seamless. The worst part is that you can't fast forward or skip the chapters so you're stuck watching from beginning to end!

I think there's one very important question that everyone's been ignoring about this set: What color was your paper clip?

Kick ass DVD and very cool case design. I am just worried about the cardboard holding up over time. It does not seem as durable as Fight Club and Se7ens packaging.

Re: Fluffmy's question:

The packaging was/is a real bitch to get in and out of its case. A pain in the ass, overstuffed and a bit flimsy.
I found a few of the hidden features, but the questionairre is already getting to me, so not sure if I will have the patience to view all that there is on the disc. As for the re-arranging of the film in chron order, sux that you cannot cycle chapters and it is not a seamless cut but whatever. I'm waiting to see the new transfer and am excited nevertheless at the overall purchase.

I am hoping someone somewhere will post the overall sequence to all of the short cuts to print out so that you can keep it (in the already overstuffed package) in case you want to show off the features to friends and not have to navigate a forgotten method each time out.

Overall, innovative and clever but not without its obvious drawbacks. Oh well, we purchased this for the movie anyway right?!?

I got white! I bought it at Costco... so it was in a longbox... so I didn't get to pick. Later at BestBuy I saw the wide variety of colors.....

Hello! This is my first post, I just found this site while looking for memento information

If you would like to have a list of all the special features and how to get to them use this:

Binoculars: International + Theatrical Trailer
Compass: Production stills and sketches
Clock: Memento Mori Story + Chronological Order Movie
Book: Directors Script
Globe: International Art
Skull: Anatomy of a Scene

just select the picture you want and choose C for everything (to continue forward through the pages, not moving left or right to other lines of questions). I don't think it even matters what you choose for most of the questions, the only one that does matter is the 'final question' in a certain line (check the inside cover of the case to see what I mean on the diagram). If you choose A or B there, you will move to the left, D or E will move you right and C will always move you forward.

"The packaging was/is a real bitch to get in and out of its case. A pain in the ass, overstuffed and a bit flimsy. "

Thanks. I was going to take mine back but I guess they're all like that. I like the design of the packaging but it'll eventually get destroyed if I use it too often. At least I got most of the initial dent from opening it out.

The menu navigation short cuts are at: http://world.std.com/~trystero/Memento_LE.html

Despite the packaging and annoying/innovative menus (depending on your perspective), I'd still reccomend it to anyone considering buying it since the picture/sound quality are better than the initial release. The picture is reference quality and I always thought that Memento had a great realistic look.

Btw: I got Blue.

OH MY GOD. The last 10 minutes of the director commentary are played IN REVERSE. :rar: I wanted to see what he had to say about the split second scene where Lenny closes his eyes while driving and sees himself and his wife (alive) in bed while he still has the 'John G raped and murdered my wife' tattoo on.... I always just treated this as a dream, since it looks like one, and it's really the only way it makes sense with the rest of the movie.

But the commentary is REVERSED! I loved all the menus, the hidden features, the packaging, the extra papers and extreme detail given to everything on this DVD...

but having the last 10 minutes of the commentary IN REVERSE?!

Welcome Paul.n3w! It's great to have you on the ultimate DVD site! Are the different paper clips just a presentation thing or do you get a certain mail in prize if you get a certain color?

"OH MY GOD. The last 10 minutes of the director commentary are played IN REVERSE."

I played the movie through last night and my commentary wasn't in reverse at the end. I was going to suggest that your DVD was defective until I read the info at:

http://world.std.com/~trystero/Memento_LE.html

Thanks, fluffmygarfield.

**DVD spoiler alert**

From the site:

"There are four (!) different endings to the commentary track on this disc.
The film is encoded as Title 1 on the disc. At the end of Chapter 13 in this title, at the 1:33:52 mark, there's a branch point that seems to be activated only if you're listening to the commentary track (soundtrack #4) at that moment.

If you're listening to any of the other soundtracks (DD 5.1, DD 2.0 or DTS 5.1), your player will not branch and will continue to Chapter 14 of Title 1. If you now switch over to the commentary, it'll play normally until the 1:37:15 mark, when it will slow down and then become garbled (reversed, mostly) for the remainder of the film.

If, on the other hand, you're listening to the commentary track as you cross the 1:33:52 mark, your player will switch (randomly, as far as I can tell) to Title 2, 3 or 4. Each of these contains the final three chapters of the film encoded with a subtly different -- but thankfully non-garbled -- version of the commentary.

There's a great deal of overlap between these commentary versions, but there are differences (e.g., the tracks on Titles 2 and 3 include the revelation that Teddy's license plate number is the postcode of Nolan's school, while the track on Title 4 doesn't mention this point)."

P.s. I got orange.

Oh thank god Wow! So 3 different endings to the commentary, (and one backwards one).... It's funny because that information about the commentary tracks wasn't on that site last night when I was looking through all the features of the DVD - I'll have to check back with that site again to see if anything else is discovered

much more that I ever expected. Now I'm 100% satisfied with the DVD (actually more like 110% - This is the best DVD I've ever purchased )

Thank you billyslits and

JTrotter: You can!!

Yes, you can watch the movie in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER on the new Limited Edition.

But, it's on the second disc, hidden (but this forum has spelled out to get to it.) Also, you can't skip around on the track (FF or scene skip). The video presentation probably isn't as good on this track compared to Disc 1, but I haven't read a report about this. And last but not least, the sound is only DD 2.0.

So there are some down sides, but we get to watch in order, if thats what you want, which is good enoguh for me.
