The DVD Release of 'Stand By Me'

Can anyone tell me if this was a quality release or should I wait for another to come out.

It is like $14 now. It doesn't have the best commentary from Reiner on it but there's a great "Making of" featurette that includes King. And the "Stand by Me" video. I never saw it until the DVD.

Actually, there's no 5.1 on this release. That might be a reason to wait. I am not sure if there are plans for another one, though.

There was already a bare bones release prior to the Special Edition. I seriously doubt there will be another version.

As for the sound, the film was originally mono so I have no complaints with it remaining that way. Would have been nice to at least have a stereo mix however. Obviously the elements were available since the SE includes an isolated score (still in mono).

The documentary is one of my personal favorites. I agree the commentary is a bit of a bore, as with any Rob Reiner ones I've heard so far.

Buy it purely for the documentary. It is brilliant.
