DTS - YAY!

And I am very much looking forward to the new extended cut, as I was one (of the FEW, admittedly) that felt a little disappointed with the film adaptions lack of characterisation... (Gimli & Legolas especially. I also have issue's with Elrond and Aragorn's adaptions - still, awhole 'nother topic) Hopefully the extra footage will go some way in pleasing my mind!

This movie is on 2 discs?? What does that mean? You gotta switch the discs halfway through the flick?

If that's the case, screw the whole thing!

Well it is either that or crappy audio and video. A disk only holds so much information.

C'mon Phlaq, you've gotta joking.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to get up at least once during the 3 hours and 28 minute film. If wasn't spread over two discs, both the video and audio quality would suffer greatly, and it would mean, amongst other things, no DTS track.

I think the whole set sounds piss-your-pants fantastic, myself!
I can't wait to own both cuts of the film.

I had the same problem, which is why I'm looking forward to the extended cut more than the first release.

As for the movie being split up over two discs, what's the problem? When the movie's that long, you gotta expect it. As if I could sit there that long without getting up anyway.

Oh, boo-fucking-hoo, I have to get up off my ass once during a three-and-a-half-hour movie to change discs! Back in the days of laserdiscs, you would've had to change disc sides four times for a 3 1/2 hour movie, and wouldn't have had any freeze-frame or slo-mo features (unless the film was in CAV, in which case the film would be spread across eight disc sides!). You DVD people are whiney little bitches sometimes.

I agree, I'd rather have the film spread over 2 discs with best picture and sound quality. Plus, the thing has FOUR commentaries! So DD, DTS, 4 commentaries, plus probably a French or Spanish tracks along with the 3 and 1/2 hour movie. That is a lot to fit on one disc, just doesn't make sense. So I am glad they are doing two discs for us. I am also glad it is just the movies on the first two discs, and all the special features are on the other two discs. I don't like it when the special features are all spread out. If they take up two discs--fine. But I'd rather have them all collected together then be switching discs to watch 5 minute featurettes.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF IT COULD BE PUT ON ONE DISC WITHOUT MESSING UP THE A/V BUT WITH A FILM THAT LONG A BREAK HALFWAYTHROUGH WON'T BE TOO BAD, the sad thing is this 4 disc set will probably be at least 20 bucks cheaper than the origianl E.T. disc and one more thing abotu this 4 disc set,You can go ahead and give the extras a ratings of 5/5 that looks like it'll be loaded, I might just have to buy BOTH versions of LOTR

I will be most definitely buying both LOTR sets. Looks like they hit it out of the park twice (as opposed to E.T. with a pair of strikeouts, although I'll be forced to buy the $70 version).

Ill be going for the standard 2 disc version myself. I cannot see myself watching all those extras on the 4 disc version, and I found the movie sufficient in length.

Does it say the new length version is a directors cut? If it is just an insertion of footage, then Im not fussed, but if it is directors cut well then ill have to consider it. But currently 2 disc version will be my go

Yes, the second, four-disc release is an extended director's cut.

I'm an old LD guy too.

We would have been swapping discs like crazy and enduring constant side changes as well.

Just for comparisons sake, I just watched the ET SE Box Set last night ( on CAV LD ) and had to change the discs twice, and two side breaks to boot. Good picture, but no DD, or dts, just digital pro logic. So, two discs for LotR, with DD ex and dts ES, comentaries, almost twice as long as ET...I'm game

I just need to make sure I have my Rotel and Amps to take advantage if it

dont you own pearl harbor, well anyway, you cant be a starwars fan as well, because we know what its like to make the sacrafice of having to switch disks between a movie, we dont have any other chose to get the best quality for the original trilogy, and i think we should be able to handle the sacrifice again to get the best quality for this movie, your acting like your dvd players located across the street and you dont want to make the 50 yard trek

I know exactly what you mean
When I left the cinema after my 1st viewing, I just knew I had to revamp my audio system before the dvd is out - and it better be a 7.1 setup!
Since then I've replaced my NAD receiver to the EAD pre/pro, added an Anthem power amp, and bought the Servo-15 Sub.

When the Extended cut is released, I will have my 7.1 system - this I vow!
