At least 2 versions of HP are being sold, one pan and scan, and one widescreen... This splits up the numbers among the different versions, resulting in lower numbers for all of them.

Actually, I believe the multiple releases were going to be combined for charting purposes as of a couple months ago. That being the case, I certainly don't understand Potter being so far back in the standings, what with the big ad push and whatnot. I mean, apart from the movie being only so-so good, I'd still expect it to outsell Sex and the City 3rd season.

Well, obviously something is worng with those numbers. Common sense tells us that Vanilla Sky did not sell 10 copies for every 1 of Potter sold, no matter even if it was just the WS or PS version. So maybe it doesn't represent the full week, or something of that sort. Just an informal survey, I know of 4 people who have bought Potter, and not one bought a copy of Vanilla Sky. And you know the $35 Sex and the City is not outselling the $16-18 (most places) Potter.

Remember that the Videoscan numbers come out pretty late. The data that Peter posted is for the week of May 25th. HP didn't come out until May 28th. So this implies HP reached 16th place just from stores that broke the release date, and sold them early. (Which is pretty amazing, if this is really the case.)

I'm sure that both version of the HP discs will be on top of next week's chart, as newt's info shows.

VERY nice to see that the studios have Widescreen vs. Pan & Scan all wrong. The numbers don't lie.
