Suspiria...

I have NEVER seen this movie, but while browsing through DVDshrine.com's reviews I stumbled on to it. Then I went and asked a few friends what they thought, and some said it blows The Exorcist, Halloween, and The SHining away! I first doubted that, but I then got even more curious. So Has anyone seen it, and IS IT THAT DAMN SCARY??!!!

Suspiria has come up in MANY threads like this. It has gone unnoticed in North America by TOO many people and is now being discovered thanks to Anchor Bay.
Suspiria IS a masterpiece (as I've said many times before). I recommend that you get it, and, for MAXIMUM effect, watch it by yourself in the dark with all the lights out. It is haunting and very atmospheric and contains some brutal death scenes.
But just so you're not surprised, it is dubbed (it was filmed IN english and dubbed over in post like many italian films of that era), and there is ONE scene which has not dated well (the one with the bat). If those things don't bother you, go for it. It's an awesome film. If you like it, I also recommend it's sequel, INFERNO.

I thought the same thing when I first saw it but then I realized that some of the dialogue didn't sound as clunky as dubbed lines usually do. I did some research and found that this particlar movie was filmed with all actors using their native language. Some spoke their lines in English, others spoke their lines in Italian, german etc... (that must have been a trip for those people on-set). Every line not English was then dubbed and this creates a pretty weird effect for the viewer who's watching one actress speak perfect English while the other's voice sounds disjointed and the lips don't sync up.I only bring this up because I've never heard of a movie being filmed this way and I thought it was an interesting little tidbit.

Great movie though. I'm officially an Argento convert. I wouldn't compare it to Exorcist, Halloween or Shining as being better or worse (quite frankly nothing, I mean NOTHING, will ever scare me the way The Exorcist did upon initial viewing). This film is in a class by itself. Pick it up.

A must own if you are a fan of horror. I bought the Limited Edition set and loved it! It is a great horror flick and should keep you awake a night. Recommended!!

LIke you Sepirtoh Clone, I had never seen this film, and asked for opinions. Finally I shipped one in from the USA.

I liked the music, it rocked, but as a film I found it quite bad. I didnt find it scarey at all. Halloween will make me jump, but this nothing.

BUt yeah I hope you do like it, cos I can see some good qualities in it. I think the directing was A1.

Disclaimer: this is just an opinion

I wasn't a fan of Suspiria. I watched it with a friend and he was pretty amazed by it, but i thought it was pretty much exploitation pap (sorry if i offended any Argento fans). Had nice use of colours, but elsewhere i found it quite poor, and even kinda boring!
