Top Gun. Never saw the need to see it. Still don't. No warm fuzzy memories of Maverick for me. Same goes for Days of Thunder.

St. Elmo's Fire. Man In Motion, my mulletheaded ass.

The Bodyguard. I'm glad the rest of the world has come round to the opinion I've always had: Kevin Costner really isn't that good of an actor.

I can't really say that I'm "proud" of myself for not seeing some things. I'll try to give anything I'm sketchy about a chance, though I'm not going to go out of my way and rent or buy just anything to do so.

To me, being proud of not seeing a certain film borders on arrogance and pretentiousness. If someone doesn't want to see a movie because it doesn't look right for them that's fine. But don't congratulate yourself for not "stooping to that level of entertainment".

By the way, sorry if I took the question too seriously.

Curious...

There are very few movies I'm "proud" not to have seen, but a few I haven't seen because I think the filmmaker shouldn't be encouraged. "Enhanced" rereleases, art films from middlebrows who want to be highbrows, and after "Hollywood Ending", I will NEVER pay to see a Woody Allen movie again. Allen owes us all a personal apology after a film that shoddily constructed.

I think a person should do whatever the hell he or she pleases. One should also defend him or herself after being called a sheep by some lowsy elitist.

Ok guys.... comments like this WILL NOT be tolerated... Please consider yourself warned, quithex.

Let's tone it down a bit and focus MORE on the actual topic: movies you are PROUD you have not seen.

Dr Detroit, I understand the offense you have taken but I must ask that you let the forum moderators handle whatever problems you have and that you do NOT take matters into your own hands.

If things DO get out of hand, I will close the thread....

Peace....

If you haven't seen it, how do you know its no good?

Furthermore, how do you know its not so incredibly bad as to be hilarious?

If you're not doing something because everyone else is, isn't that just as bad as doing something because everyone is? I mean either way you're not thinking for yourself.

You never know when someone will suprise you.

Jim Carey? Cable Guy is a fantastic film.
Adam Sandler? Happy Gilmore is worth the time.
Driving Miss Daisy is pretty good.
Woody Allen made a ton of great movies back when he had talent. No Need to rule out their entire career based on his current failures.

I still haven't seen Titanic, but based on James Cameron's body of work and it's general acclaim, I'll see it if I get the chance, and I bet I'll like it. I certainly won't expect the second coming, but just because its a chick flick doesn't mean it can't be ok. Hell, I saw Return to Me recently and enjoyed it.

Manigrasso on the other hand is not missing a thing.

I agree with whoever said it, not doing something simply because it is popular is WORSE than following the crowd really. At least if you do it because it is popular, you show that you can reason and see that if others enjoy something, it might be worth your time. Not doing it to somehow spite those who are is more akin to shooting yourself in the foot.

I am sorry, Harry Potter has no plot? If anything, it has too much. It was based off a 300-400 page novel! The next three films will be even more plot intensive. The fourth book may have to be split into two films it is so plot and character heavy.

Yes, I love the Star Wars films because I grew up on them, not because it is cool. Ha ha, whoever was called cool in high school for being into Star Wars? Were those the same cool kids going to Star Trek conventions? Yeah, everyone was jumping on board to be like them.

As for some of the other films mentioned here--never seen a Jim Carrey film? Then you have missed some of the best films made in recent years. Carrey deserved an Oscar for Man on the Moon, and a nomination at least for The Truman Show. Why the hate toward Driving Miss Daisy? It's a good film. Not a classic, I don't think, but still enjoyable. And while I have no interest in Ya Ya Sisterhood, I do not turn my nose at it because of what it is, but simply because the trailers do not appeal to me. But if reccomended to me, I might watch it at home...on DVD...in widescreen....alone. If I were too much of an elitist, I would have missed another southern comedy about women--Steel Magnolias, which is an excellent film.

As for having not seen Titanic, Braveheart, or Gladiator--it all kinda smacks of arrogance to me. It seems like self imposed ignorance of a film just to be able to say so. It would be like me never watching Casablanca, just so when others talked about it as one of the greatest films, or the greatest, I could stand up proudly and say, "I don't agree. I don't think it is worth my time." And then everyone can be really impressed, cause I'm either an incredibly busy person, or refuse to watch a film because it lacks those "fun black bars." If everyone else is telling you a film, or a book, or a CD, or a game, is great--guess what? Maybe it is, and therefore worth some of your time. Not to be "cool," but to see what others reccomend. You never know, there are other smart people in this world besides yourself...

Elwood, right on.

I was just about to make a post in a very similar vein, but you've saved me the trouble. Just to summarize though: To not want to follow the 'crowd' is fine, but to ignore something that is 'popular' simply because it is popular just isn't very smart. No offense.

BTW...Steel Magnolias is great. And another favorite...Terms of Endearment. :p

Anything with Adam Sandler or Jennifer Lopez in them. And anything by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, or Kevin Smith. None of those films are worth my time or even my money or consideration. I would rather save my money for something better and with a little more class and intelligence.

And elwood is right, it's all a matter of personal choice. Other older, classic films like Braveheart or Casablanca I'll admit I haven't seen, simply because I've not gotten around to watching them, and that's one thing. And I didn't see Lord of the Rings when it came out simply because I never got around to seeing it, but when I got the screener tape, I enjoyed it.

Just to keep this message on-topic I will say I'm proud to have never seen

2. Battlefield Earth

3. Almost everything Stallone did in the 80's.

I would say maybe 80 - 90% of all Oscar-nominated films in a given year (I'm not sure if it's a matter of pride, or if I'm simply too cheap to see it in a theatre. Now, the DVDs are a different story.....)

This is a rather unusual topic and the responces to it...but I'll bite.... I happen to enjoy films of all kinds..be it serious, silly or sappy.

I happened to have enjoyed both Mulholland Drive and Star Wars Episode II despite those films being from two totally different worlds....and I can't help but crack up every time I see Weekend At Bernies

on the other hand....
I'm quite content that I haven't seen or have any interest in seeing Friday The 13th part 4-10

I try to go into most things with an open mind, but there are certain things that I will never see. Some of this summer's upcoming "hits" come to mind. I hope I never ave to sit through Scooby Doo or Like Mike. Actually, I hope i never have to see another Freddy Prinze Jr. movie. Its not that I don't like the romantic comedy genre, but after I was suckered into seeing Boys and Girls, I vowed to never see anything he associated himself with.

BWilliams: I don't want to stand up for Lopez and Sandler too much, but Out of Sight was an enjoyable film and the upcoming PT Anderson film (not to be confused with Mr. Deeds) looks like it could have potential.

Crow, I'd suggest, if you can ever stomach it, to watch some of his "older, funnier" films. Some of his films play in a similar vein to Airplane, Kentucky Fried Movie, and other ZAZ comedies. Each film is tends to be a satire of a style of movie-making, with a lot of stream-of-consciousness thrown in, but with Allen's self-deprecating style. I'm not talking about the "romantic" Allen comedies like Annie Hall or Manhattan, or his recent attempts at film. I'm talking:

Take the Money & Run. I saw this when I was a kid on a local independent station during a rainy Saturday afternoon, and I damn near wet myself. All these years later, it's still funny to me.

Sleeper

Love and Death

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask.

Bananas

There's a lot of physical comedy in these films, and stuff that's just totally out of left field. And they're pretty short, so if you hate them, you've wasted less than 90 minutes of your time.

There's many films I wish I hadn't seen and I will be proud to say I will never watch AGAIN. But as someone above says, how do you know it's no good unless you've seen it... reviews are only personal tastes and I'm sure we've ALL disagreed with a reviewer one way or the other at some point!

And some of the films I've not wanted to see have turned out to be some of my favourites (LA Confidential springs to mind... didn't fancy it, but ever since my first viewing I think it's one of the best films made in the last 20 years).
