A few Stephen King tidbits ....

Hello King fans (you listenin', Mr. McMinn?? )

Now... take this with whatever salt you wish.... but it certainly seems like it's official enough to start getting (a bit) excited about

According to Stephen King's website ,.... it looks like DVD versions of IT and Cat's Eye will be released by Warner around Halloween 2002*. (*note: It actually lists them as May 2002, but Lilja's Library - The World of Stephen King, a pretty darn credible news source in the past, says that listing is an error... and that Oct '02 is the correct timeframe).

Also, King's miniseries version of The Shining is (finally) going to be released on DVD as well. King has done a commentary and the DVD will be through Warner Home Video. The DVD will also have interviews with Mick Garris, Steven Weber, and others. It is scheduled for either the end of this year or more likely early 2003.

I have been waiting for IT for a while, and I will pick up Cat's Eye as well. Very good news. Two of King's best.

I can't wait for the miniseries version of The Shining, which I prefer to Kubrick's film. King commentaries are fun.

If that is true I am thrilled about IT. "IT" was on USA over the weekend and I still was creeped out by Pennywise.

I'e never seen IT, but I might pick it up. I'm really looking forward to The Shining, I too prefer it to Kubrick's.

Fans of the book prefer the TV version of The Shining since it is much more faithful to the book.
I prefer it. But Kubrick's version is excellent if you just look at it as a horror film and forget that its an adaptation of a novel.

IT is a fine book and miniseries about 3/4's of the way. But the end of both just suck.

*SPOILER*
I still don't get the thing with the turtle and the spider at the end of the book.

Yeah, the Shining is my favorite SK book but I prefer the Kubrick film. The miniseries was cheesy. And I LOVED the book IT but hated the ending with the spider thingy b.s. There's nothing better than reading a thousand page book only to be screwed with a crappy ending.

I agree, the ending to IT kinda stinks, but it is worth it just for the rest of the series.

I hear you loud and clear, pd. How in the hell could I have missed this thread? I'll never know.

Indeed, It and Cats Eye coming to dvd is good news. With the Shining mini-series and the already mentioned, we Stephen King fans will only ONE more SK dvd to complete our Stephen King dvd collection: The Mangler.

Again, how could I miss this thread?

I have every Stephen King dvd to date with the exception of the 3 mentioned above, but that will change in the future.

New Line, I want The Mangler on dvd.

I just don't understand how I could've missed this thread. Some strange shit. Go figure.

I don't know. I saw that "It" was on TV last weekend and my wife and I decided to flip over and watch. So we did. We watched for about 2 minutes and started laughing our asses off because the acting was so unbelievably bad. I seem to remember this movie being a little bit better when I first watched on TV about 14 years ago. I guess it hasn't aged well.

Not that I enjoyed it that much the first time anyway. It cut about 1 half of the book out. I liked the fact that in the book, their first confrontation with IT mirrored the final confrontation 30 years later almost exactly. And I liked how King intercut the first confrontation with the final one narratively. I realize this couldn't have been done on screen, but I always thought it was the real genius of the book. Another thing was that the book had the quality of a nightmarish epic fairy-tale. Something that the movie lacked entirely. Maybe if they had spread it out a few more nights it would have captured that epic feel.

hmmm

I think being entertained by books or movies is alot like hypnosis in a way. Not everyone who sits with a hypnotist can be mesmerized. Same with book or movies. You have to find something about a particular book or movie that makes you wanna be sucked into its world. If ya don`t, it doesn`t do a thing for ya. I loved IT. Go figure.
