Twilight Zone Movie

Does anyone know if Warner Bros. Home Video is planning on releasing TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE on DVD anytime soon? I've been looking fervently for the past four years online, but I have not found one iota of evidence to indicate that it's in the pipeline or being considered for the format. It's not a particular favorite of mine, but sort of maddening since it seems like a notable absence from their catalog.

Maybe now, since Spielberg is embracing DVD, we'll get lucky.

There's supposed to be a new Twilight Zone...or would that be a NEW New Twilight Zone...series on UPN this fall. Which would make this, IMHO, a good time to release the flick on DVD.

(devil's advocate mode on)

Maybe something keeping the movie from being released on DVD, like so many other problems on so many other movies, is a legal rights issue. Twight Zone-The Movie is a Warner Brothers release, but I think the name "The Twilight Zone" is owned by CBS/Viacom. Maybe WB has to renegotiate the rights to the title "Twilight Zone." Or maybe the rights to the music, or even Rod Serling's voice, as heard at the end of the movie just before the end credits. And if WB doesn't feel that it's worth the money time or effort, the movie won't come out. It wasn't a big success in the movies, and with such an extensive catalog, I'm guessing they'd rather expend the effort on the less problematic titles.

Heh, I was just lamenting this the other day.

No sign of Twilight Zone: The Movie or Memoirs of an Invisible Man...and I want 'em both so much.

Oh man, I loved Memoirs. You always hear everyone talk about how great and revolutionary the effects were in Hollow Man, but Memoirs of an Invisible Man did it first. And the movie was better to boot. It's funny how that movie's been almost erased from everyone's memory. Thanks for reminding me Lo Pan.

I have Memoirs Of An Invisible Man on LD - it's a top-drawer flick and like most of the great ones, didn't do so well at the BO.

I always encourage my friends to check it out on TV or at my place and they all enjoy it. Chevy's last great, great above-the-line movie?

Twilight Zone was a pretty unsatisfying and troublesome experience for the four directors on the individual sequences, not least Landis, who almost went to jail after a stunt went wrong and his lead actor and two kids died during filming.

I don't think anyone is rushing to get this out there, and any hold-ups like CBS rights will not get Warners to push ahead and try.

Shame, as I'd get it for Spielberg's Kick The Can episode - a forerunner to Amazing Stories? Where's THAT on DVD, Universal?
