In Wayne Rowe's DVD File review for JN:BG, he states that this was a direct digital-to-digital transfer.
Clearly from looking at the disc this isn't the case. From the opening Paramount logo and white-on-black titles, there is a slight gate weave only possible from a film print. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this (the last film print of a digital film I remember seeing was ANTZ). Looking closeup, you can definitely spot small scratches and pops on the (albeit very good) print. I actually think the trip to film and back serves JN:BG well in this respect, taking some of the too-clean sheen off from the stylistically plastic looking CG and giving the overall picture more contrast. Wonder why Paramount took this route?
