I love this movie. I think its funnier than The Royal Tenebaums (<-spelling??)
The acting, the soundtrack, the gags, the heart... all perfect in my book. I'll never get tired of this movie. make sure you pick the criterion edition, it's so sweet.

Very funny movie. I thoroughly enjoy it. The Criterion DVD is one of those few discs that I continuously pop in every once in a while.

Rushmore is flawless. It's a different kind of comedy, which is a nice change.

Good choice.

If you like it, and haven't seen this one either, be sure it pick up The Royal Tenenbaums on the 9th.

It's my favourite film, but I'd say you are making a mistake buying it blind. It is one of those movies that you either get or don't. If you 'get' it you'll love it and if you don't you'll hate it. I know people that have seen the movie and were all "When does it get funny?" They have shitty tastes if they don't like it , but not everyone does.

well, i'm pretty sure i'll like it, it's quite rare i don't like a movie. Usually when I see a movie, i like it because i can always tell ahead of time when seeing the previews. The movie just looks right up my alley.

The first time I watched Rushmore I was like what is this bull shit? Why did it get such good reviews? Why is it a Criterion Collection DVD? But then I rented it agian and watched it to see if I missed something. And I in fact did. The movie is funny at times, but not non-stop funny like The Royal Tenbaums. The acting is good, Jason Shotrzman started off his carrer good but, if he keeps up with shit movies like Slackers he will not no whear and get there quick. Bill Murrary is good. I thought some how they should have got Owen & Luke Wilson bigger roles but oh well. The rest of the cast is good. The diaglo is good. Like I said before the film is not all that funny it is funny at times and there are some down right hilarous scenes. I'd recommend a rental of it. I'll buy it if it ever drops under $20.00 (on Criterion). If I would have posted this when I saw the movie for the first time I would have said that it's a 3/10 but now I'll give it a 6/10. Also check out The Tenbaums when it comes outs. I think when that was out I decied on a 8.5/10 rating but I can't rember if I it was 8/10, 8.5/10 or 9/10 oh well check them both out! Also, I have a question how is [b]Bottel Rocket/B]?

Donkey, I happen to agree with a good deal of what you said. Rushmore takes too long to get to where its going, and the none of the characters are particularly likeable. It's mostly brilliant, occasionaly funny and by all means a good movie, but bookended by Botttle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums, it's definately a sophmore slump.

It's hard to describe how I feel about Bottle Rocket. It's a perfect movie. It's funny, and touching, simple and warm. The Royal Tenenbaums is a lot like Bottle Rocket, but more complicated, which maybe makes it better, but I need to see it again a few more times...

Bottle Rocket is great, one of my favorites of all time. Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson are great writers. I highly recommend seeing this movie. The DVD is barebones but, I still think it's worth picking up.

I don't think Owen was in Rushmore.

Personally, I saw Rushmore first and I like it the best. The music is the best, the characters are the best, and the story is the best.

If anything, I think Bottle Rocket was a good starter, Rushmore was a classic, and Tenebaums was a little too similar, but still very good.

I didn't like Bottle Rocket, but Rushmore is great, the main reason being Bill Murray. He is frickin brilliant. Has anyone noticed how he is aging gracefully with his performances in Rushmore & The Royal Tanenbaums?

Whats there not to get about Rushmore?

I thought the movie was alright. I rented it and liked it. But I kick myself EVERY FUCKING DAY for not buying it blind when I saw the Criterion at best buy for $8.99!!I was just going to buy it cause I heard the movie was pretty good and I heard Criterions are high quality shit, so it was too good of a deal. A few days later I actually went back, but it was gone of course.

No that was Luke Wilson, his brother (or brutha, whatever)

Owen only helped write it and played the uncredited role of Mrs. Cross' dead husband, Edward Appleby.

You are speaking about Luke Wilson. He was the 'friend'.

Owen Wilson is not in the film. He co-wrote it.

Wes Anderson has a flawless career thus far.
Whether you like his films or not, they have a distinct style and atmosphere to them.

My guess is that he will become one of the great remembered directors years from now.

I saw Rushmore three times in the theatre and I have a long-standing rule NEVER to see a film twice in the theatre (I broke the same rule when I saw The Royal Tenenbaums three times as well). Schwartzman, Murray and Williams are wonderful as the three main characters, but I have to commend the supporting cast--Seymour Cassels, Mason Gamble, Brian Cox--as well.

I've never met a person who didn't like Rushmore (except for a former student colleague who refused to see the film because it was financed by "Hollywood" i.e. Disney and she never paid admission to see a mainstream film--she loved Miramax films however ).

I frequent an exceptional, independent retail outlet that caters exclusively to DVD. The owner showed me the list of Criterion titles available to order and Rushmore was listed as a title to be discontinued! I hope that this is not true and that it's just misinformation--the loss to the galaxy would be incalculable!
