Alternate versions - cut list type question

Some of you may have seen my post in Hardware about the RCA CED videodisc player I found at work. As it turns out, this find has created more work for me.

I work at a university and now I'm being charged with going through the CED disc collection to find out if each movie is available on VHS and/or DVD and whether we already have the VHS or DVD in our collection.

Also, since this is a very old format, I want to find out if we own a version on CED that is not available on VHS. For example, Star Wars. The library has the original on CED and that may be worth keeping in the catalog because Lucas is slowly wiping the original off the face of the planet.

I'm not worried about Star Wars, that's just an example. I'm worried about the movies I've never heard of. Aside from comparing running times in IMDB, is there a way of finding out if we have a unique version of a movie? Any ideas?

I'd say it was extremely unlikely that any films released on CED were anything unique. More likely that the CED disk was identitical to whatever version was released on VHS/Beta during the early 80's. So unless the film is available nowhere else in the universe, there is no reason to hang on to them.

However, you might check the laser disk section of Ebay. People sometimes sell CED disks there. If the title is available there, the seller will probably hype up anything unique about the disk.
