Where Do You Buy Most of Your DVDs?
I used to purchase all of my discs at Best Buy, but now I only go to Media Play, Wal*Mart, and once in awhile Circuit City & FYE. I also used to buy some discs cheap on eBay, but after losing over $80 due to scammers I stopped.
Hopw about you?

I buy most movies from A&B Sound. They have a decent selection and pretty good prices.

It's all about BestBuy. Especially for release-week stuff.... cheap cheap cheap.
I also do a fair amount at Borders, Tower, Costco/Sams, and FYE.

Who ever has the best pricest. And that would usually be Best Buy or Circut City and for used DVD I allways go to The Record Exchange.

Circuit City always has equal/lesser prices for new release with Best Buy, so I goto CC. Gotta love that place.

If it's a major release, I check prices online for Best Buy and Circuit City. Whoever's lower priced wins. I usually go to Best Buy because its easier to get to. All Wal Marts are too far from central Houston. Fry's has the best prices and selection IMHO, but again, it's at least an hour+ round trip from my house. There is a Borders nearby where I can really zone out and it helps if I'm short on time or just lazy in general to drive ten more minutes to BB. I go online to DVD Empire usually for stuff I don't think I'll find at the retailers on their street date.

Best Buy usually for the prices and selection. If its something "unique" its almost always online or Suncoast is pretty good (except I have to mortgage a house to buy anything there).

I usually go to Media Play, Circuit City, Borders, and Wal-Mart. I like to pre-order from Media Play and their selection is fantastic.
I almost always check Circuit City before purchasing a title. Their prices are often better (the nearest Best Buy is like 30 miles away, so it seems a silly idea to drive there just to save a few bucks) than the others. Borders is good for some more "cultured" films, and their prices are a few bucks cheaper than Media Play's. And good ol' Wal-Mart with its 9.44 and 14.44 titles.

For mainstream releases I usually go to Circuit City for the price match and the 2 cuties behind the counter that always go out of their way to help me.
For obscure stuff I hit BestBuy. For oldies I do Wal*Marts $9.44 and $14.44 bargains. |

Almost only A&B sound online - the best prices I've seen anywhere, although www.dvdsoon.com seem to be the best competition.
For stuff I don't find there, I go to amazon.com Amazon isn't the cheapest, but I try to limit the number of stores I give my credit card to and amazon already had my credit card info since I've always baought a lot of books from them. I also do ebay, especially for Criterion etc. I only buy from sellers with solid feedback and never give my credit card info directly to them, I only pay using paypal and bidpay, and never got cheated this way. |

I try to buy "new releases" the week they come out because if you don't, you'll usually have to wait awhile before you see it at a reduced price. This generally leads me to Circuit City, Best Buy or Suncoast. I'll generally check the CC & BB circulars on Saturday for the following week and see who has the best price! (Believe it or not, Suncoast sometimes has the same price as the other two for the first week or two, if that's the case I'll buy it there since I'm a Replay member and get points toward a $5 off certificate. Lately, it seems like I'm in BB more than the others!
For older titles, definitely Best Buy and Wal*mart and their aforementioned $9.44 & $14.44 deals. Also... my wife works part time (as little as possible really), which gives us the 10% employee discount (I get a discount card, too!). So that means those titles are $8.50 & $13.00. I just picked up four titles there last night in those categories...A Few Good Men SE, Say Anything SE and the Life of Brian/Time Bandits double pack...Yes, I know they are both released as Criterions, but I don't LOVE both of those films to justify a Criterion purchase, but for $13 for two new DVDs, I couldn't pass it up! (BTW, most of the other Walmart Two packs are sh*t!) Off beat stuff, like TV shows, independent & used stuff I go to Best Buy or Compact Disc World (local NJ chain). They do a nice job with that stuff as well as music DVDs! (Nice used selection as well, but not always the greatest deals on some of the used stuff!) Has anyone here ever been to a Wherehouse Music and looked at the prices of their used stuff? I walked in and walked right out! Most of their used stuff was priced like it was "new"! Unbelievable they can stay in business...I guess some people really don't shop around for this kind of stuff.... ![]() |

I live in the UK, so the only way I can get Region 1 DVDs at reasonable prices is to buy online...My two regular suppliers are Play247.com and MovieTyme ...

it all depends... its usually walmart or future shop [cuz they're next door to each other]. between the two, i *try* to snag from walmart, cuz FS employees are just assholes... if i'm downtown, its open to whoever has the best prices [four HMVs, music world, sunrise, sam the record man, bay street video]. and online: CNL, HMV. i have to say though -- amazon.ca has just opened up this week, and its got chapters/indigo and future shop worried -- and i'm glad. bring in SOME sort of competition... so if you look, all three are offering free shipping offers. |

For me its www.dv-depot.com.
They are based in Canada and even have their own forums for topics like this(including customer service issues.) A long time ago I used to get them from www.dvdexpress.com,also tried dvdboxoffice for a while too. The main factor for me has to be price and shipping costs. Not too keen on waiting weeks at a time for a title to arrive. |

Wal-Mart
& Best Buy. But past purchases used to mainly be on ebay, but no longer bid on auctions due to its addictions.

I prefer Target to Wal-Mart. Same prices, and I don't feel like I need to take a shower afterward...I swear to god, they could put a Wal-Mart on Rodeo Drive and it still would be a dump...
dvdplanet.com is a great source. And it's only a 20 minute drive for me, so I don't have to pay for shipping.

I'd say that about 95% of my DVDs have been purchased online, and just about all of them have been heavily discounted (the reason I'm able to keep an average of around $6 per disc).
The two most common places of purchase are Columbia House (can't beat $9.23 per title, outside of free) and Amazon.com through a variety of gift certificate purchases, many from 2000 when I was doing FreeRide, Jaboom, FirstLook, etc. I rarely purchase from Amazon anymore, only when I get a great deal using STL and a coupon, or maybe a gift certificate from some promotion. Just about the only remaining click-for-DVDs program, MyPoints, is pretty lame anymore, but a few times a year I'll get a Webcertificate from them and get some DVD from the best price online, usually DDD. Even though B&M stores' prices have pretty much reached a par with online stores, there's still the convenience factor, which is a big deal for me, plus sales tax to take into account. Nevertheless, several of my anticipated DVD purchases will be done in real stores this fall.

Usually I go to Best Buy or Circuit City, especially on first week releases because of lower prices. I sometimes go to Wal Mart because they will match published prices. However, Best Buy and Circuit City have a habit of publishing "lowest price" and not the dollar amount. I shop online every now and then, usually always from Buy.Com. Buy.Com seems to always beat Amazon.Com on price.

I've shopped everywhere except Wal-Mart and I can tell you, there is NO BEATING Deepdiscountdvd.com on a consistent basis. Their prices are almost always the same or cheaper than Best Buy but the big thing is, NO SHIPPING & HANDLING CHARGES & NO TAX. Even if the movie is the same price as Best Buy, I save money by buying at DDD because I don't pay tax and I don't waste gas driving to Best Buy.
Right now I have Amelie ($21.59), The Fog SE ($12.87), Pulp Fiction (19.95), Reservoir Dogs ($19.50), Beauty & The Beast Platinum ($19.89) & E.T. Box Set ($52.89) on pre-order at DDD for a grand total of $146.69 ... no shipping ... no handling ... no tax ... and I never leave my house to get them .... BARGAIN !!! I forgot a title ... NOTORIOUS Criterion Addition. I was at the Virgin Megastore and they were having a big sale over the weekend. They had NOTORIOUS Criterion edition for $29.95 on sale for 25% off the $39.95 retail. Sounded like a real bargain and I almost bought it. Instead I decided to see what DDD had it for. I checked when I got home and the price was $28.37 TOTAL. Amazon had it for $35.99 plus tax and shipping. I ordered it from DDD and saved $2.47 in tax & $1.58 in price difference, even at a "25% discount", for a total of $4.05 in savings ... you really can't beat DDD. I usually buy most of my DVDs from Future Shop (soon to be Best Buy) since I live fairly close to one. Others I buy from include A&B Sound, Real Canadian Superstore (good prices, lousy selection), and from the emotionless robot salespeople at CNL (I swear, if they attempt to crack a smile their faces would break).
