Any news on The Salton Sea DVD??

Any news on The Salton Sea DVD release??? I saw the movie at a screening and loved it and was planning on going to see it again but then it was released on like 20 theaters nationwide. None around me of course. Anyone know any info on the DVD? Release date? specs?

Thanks a lot!

I've had my ears/ eyes peeled for news on this movie that I've been really looking forward to seeing.
Whenever news comes along I'll be very happy.

Salton Sea just opened theatrically in late April, and is still playing in some Los Angeles theatres, so I'd guess another 4 or 5 months before it hits video shelves.

I saw that only the June 7-9 weekend it was showing on a whopping 8 theaters! Then it dropped off the list the next week. They even have movies on there on 1 screen making $400 over the weekend. Pretty stupid of Warner Brothers to not release this movie wide. Im sure it'll be a hit on DVD.

Well, Kilmer is a name actor, but he hasn't had a hit in a while, and "drug movies" are a notoriously tough sell, unless they have the critical push of a "Traffic." (Though "Salton Sea" switches gears entirely at the one hour mark, ditching the umpteenth "edgy look at the drug culture" narrative to become a not-bad "Memento" variation -- and yes, I know "Sea" was shot first.)

After the modest theatrical returns for "Blow," "Requiem for a Dream," and other drug underworld pics, WB probably didn't figure there was much of a market for this pic, as "Salton Sea" is hardly commerical material. Its would-be shocking scenes, characters, and situations (the villain with no nose, stealing a stool sample, re-creating the JFK assassination with pigeons) are pretty gaudy and sleazy for the film to become any sort of word-of-mouth sensation, and they probably correctly figured that mainstream audiences would be repelled by the unsavory subject matter. Since the film didn't do especially well in its limited release, WB saw no reason to throw good money after bad and splurge on a wider release/marketing campaign for a film that wasn't likely to do well.

Like you said, I think the film's best shot at an audience is on video and DVD.

It was weird because they did have a pretty good marketing campaign. I saw the trailer for it like 10 times on different channels right on the week it was supposedly opening wide. I also saw a lot of posters around. Another thing that's odd is on the web site it says May 17th opening everywhere. Guess they forgot

It seems like several months ago that I saw that film. Guess it was actually within the last 3 months or so. I thouhgt that I saw something related to this film with DVD news but cant place it so maybe I am wrong. A good movie, that actually turns out to be more of a thriller than the Pulp Fiction-like fare that it was compared to on its release.
